Fox Quarry Unearthered |
Island View - New construction in the Island View area of Lakeside uncovered some remains of the railroad incline to the waterfront at Fox Quarry. The incline which is still visible is decorated with gardens, trees, and other yard shrubbery. During a recent addition to a home, some of the incline had to be removed. But construction workers found it to be more solid then originaly thought. The incline was built with a layer of large rip rap type stone, and then a top layer of crushed stone for the base. It took four days of work with a case excavator to remove. |

Toledo, Ohio - In fall 2004 Plant #5 -1944 Autocar DC-10 was found. This rusting hulk was discovered while checking local junk yards for Autocar DC-10 models. The DC-10 was the custom model of choice for Marblehad and would be rare to find them around the area. After checking 18 junk yards in northwest Ohio only one had a DC-10. The location is Hydes auto parts in Toledo, Ohio. After checking the serial number it was discovered to be #5. The owner of the junk yard does not have any record on the tractor but stated that it has been sitting there for over 15 years. |

Hydrate Plant Basement |
Hydrate Plant - One of the biggest mysteries is the Plant "B" and the Hydrate plant area. But out of all is the basement to the Hydrate plant. What happened to it? Where is it located? And what purpose did it serve? All of these are good questions to answer. We know the basement was connected to Crusher "B". There is evidence of this remaining but those portions are filled with water near the Hydrate plant silos. Could the basement be filled with water? In August 1994 the wreckage of Crusher "B" was examined. Many parts had to be moved after discovery of concrete walls that were filled with timber and plywood. But this was short lived due to heavy support beams blocked our way. For now we may not find answers to the basement until the remaining sections of Crusher "B" is removed for quarry operations. |
