Shock rocker Marilyn Manson is being urged to cancel his appearance at the Denver stop of this year's Ozzfest festival.

The church-run Citizens For Peace And Respect group in Denver, Colorado are asking the performer not to play as they say he promotes violence, hate and drugs.

The singer and his self-named band were falsely blamed for inciting the shootings at Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado in April 1999 after it was said that the gunmen were fans of his.

The rocker cancelled five shows during his Rock Is Dead tour, including one at Colorado's Red Rocks Ampitheatre, following the controversy.

The South Sheridan Baptist Church representative, Jason Janz, has described Manson as "evil" and said: "We as a society seem to have grown numb to evil. There's a throwing up of our hands in exasperation, a feeling that we can't do anything to fight it."

Manson is still scheduled to play Ozzfest on June 21st at Denver's Mile High Stadium alongside Slipknot, Crazy Town, Papa Roach and headliners Black Sabbath.

He initially pulled out of the performance due to a scheduling conflict but has since reversed this decision.
