April 25, 2001 Melville Parent Teacher Group Monthly meeting

2. Playground – J. Bauer

• The Playground Committee attended a United Way/Citizen's Bank reception for grant recipients. Melville was I of 7 recipients.
• Committee is requesting a donation from the Newport Officers' Spouses Club for picnic table and benches for the playground.
• National Guard will return in Aug.
• ARGC Corp. (Melville Housing contractors) is offering to sell fill for $3 cubic yard to fill soccer area. There is no funding at the moment.
• Kindergarten equipment goes up this weekend.
• Fibar ready for delivery.
• Dimeo will pave b-ball court when they return to finish work on addition area.

1. School System Budget – Tim Ryan

• Mr. Ryan explained the budget process. He stated that the Town Council has cut almost $900,000 from the school budget. The School Committee will meet Mon. April 30 to work how to address this budget cut. The Town Budget meeting is May 23 at PMS, 7 p.m. Question and answer period followed.

• The budget remains stable.

• The updated by-laws were adopted.

1. Pennies for the Playground – Lisa Lafleur

• Collection boxes are out at local businesses.
• The in school drive will be May 7 – 18.

1. The Staff Appreciation Luncheon will be May 16.
2. A motion was made to transfer the newspaper field trip money to the Boston field trip account, motion passed.
3. Ice Cream Social, May 11

• Toni Carnevale will arrange for ice cream.

2. May meeting cancelled, June meeting will be set to wrap up year and draft next budget
