| Welcome! | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| This 6 weeks we will be learning about machines. We will discuss each of the 6 different types of macines. Be prepared this is a challenging unit there will be a quiz each day at the end of class to make sure that we are all following along. You will also be working on a team project . You and three other classmates must design a compound machine. Each Friday we will spend working on this project. It will be due before your final test on May 15th. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Machines Make Life Easier | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| In physics, work means moving an object a certain distance in the direction of an applied force. Think about when you push on a brick wall. The wall does not move; therefore, you are not doing work. If insteac you were to push on a single brick and the brick moved even one centemeter you are doing work! |

| Questions for this lesson: | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 1. Give an example of work?? 2. What is the formula for Force? 3. What is the unit for Work, Force, and Power? 4. Write one example problem for power? 5. What is the rate of doing work? 6. List the 6 simple machines? 7. What are the different types of levers? Draw a diagram? |

| POWER | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Power, is the rate of doing work. Whenever force is moving an object against a resistance work is done. Power is how long it takes for work to be completed in seconds | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| SIMPLE MACHINES | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Power can be increased when using machines to help to do the work. All machines are made from the components of these six simple machines. Click below for more information!! |

| TEAM PROJECT | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Each team will construct a complex machine using at least two simple machines listed above. This project will be due one week before your final test on this unit on Tuseday May 15th and Wednesday May 16th. It must meet the following criteria: 1. You must have a "blue print of the machine" a drawing of what you are building. This can be either hand or computer drawn. This drawing will be graded on neatnes and similarity to the actual machine. (30 pts) 2. You must be able to use you machine to do work. You must demonstrate this work to the class. (60pts) 3. Your group members and you will give a 10pts participation grade that will be averaged to give you a possible total of (10pts) 4. You can get up to 10 addition points in creativity and originality. This is a grade I will give that is based on on presentation and if I have seen similar projects in the past. (Don't use you big brother or Sister's design) (10pts) DON'T BE LATE!!!
