Ms. Prisant's Classroom Home Page
Welcome!
This 6 weeks  we will be learning about Geology, the earth, it's atmosphere, rocks ,and  more.  Be prepared this is a challenging unit  there will be a quiz each day at the end of class to make sure that we are all following along.  You will also be working on a team project .  You and three other classmates must create a working volcanoe.  Each Friday we will spend working on this project.  It will be due before your final test on April 13th.
Students, Parent, Fellow Teachers, and guests, thank you for visiting our classroom on-line.  Here you can find information about assignments, lessons, and other links to web sites that relate to what is going on in our class.

2. What are the two major gases associated with volcanoes?

3. What are the two major compositions of magma?

4. What two factors determine how a volcanoe will errupt?

In quiet eruptions, the lava slowly flows out and forms flat layers that eventually make a shield volcanoe.  The lava spreads out over a large area creating a flat base with gently sloping sides.
In composite volcanoe, the errutions alternate between quiet and explosive.  The exposive eruptions put down layers of tephra and pyroclastic flows which down the slope at high speeds.  The lava if quiet eruptions runs over the tephra and pyroclastic flows which down the slope at high speeds.
ASSIGNMENTS:
3/28: Read Ch 25 in your book.
Answer q. 1-5.

3/29 Handouts given in class.

3/30: Read pgs. 55-80 in your book. Memorize vocabulary for quiz..

TEAM PROJECT

Each team will construct a replica of a real volcanoe using a picture found on-line, or in a book.  You will draw from a hat the type of volcanoe that you must choose. Each Volcanoe will errupt one week before your final test on this unit on Friday  April  6th and Wednesday April 7th..  On erruption day you  must meet the following criteria:
1. You must have a computer print out, a photo, or a photo copy of the voolcanoe that you are reporting on.  (10 pts)
2. You must have  a three page report on the volcanoe per group.  Include the history of the people who live near the site.  What happened last time it errupted and how it effected the community around it.  Give information on the type of volcanoe and how it was formed. Be neat. (35pts)  (5pts extra for typing it; use the classroom computer if you don't have acces to one after school)
3. Your group members and you will give a 10pts participation grade that will be averaged to give you a possible total of (10pts)
4.  Creating a working volcanoe that looks like the picture you have found (30pts (15 pts for making the volcanoe, 10pts for making it the right type of volcanoe, and 5pts to make it look just like the picture))
DON'T BE LATE!!! YOU WILL LOOSE 10PTS EVERY DAY YOU ARE LATE!!!  If you need any supplies let me know I have a few basics that you can use if necessary.)  Here is a helpful site to help you with your project!
