Learning Beliefs
My educational philosophy is based around the concept of respect.  The teacher's first goal in teaching is to show his or students respect as members of an educational community.  I feel that a student cannot learn effectively until they feel a sense of comfort and belonging in their educational environment.  Once they feel respected as integral members of a class, it is likely that the teacher will see positive results in everyday classroom activities.

As educators, it is our job to develop upstanding individuals who will contribute positively to society in some way.  In doing so, we must be role models, and demonstrate how to show respect to others.  Once students are shown respect, they will reciprocate it back to the teacher, as well as to his or her peers, administration, and all other members of the school and community.  In our present society, where students are not always valued for the talents they might posess, or the insightful thoughts they may think, it is up to the teacher to bring these out to raise the child's confidence.

Technology makes up an integral part of this puzzle.  Educators can use these resources, showing trust and respect in the students that they are able to effectively use them.  Not only can technology resources be a motivation tool, but it can also open pathways and talents that students may not have been previously aware of.  It is another form of expression, and should be presented to the students as such.  I can remember when I was in school, whenever our teacher used any form of technology such as a computer, filmstrip, or video, we were always more engaged in the lesson.

Each year, with each new class, I try to reach each and every student in some way shape or form.  Whether it be a simple conversation relating to the child, attending an after school sporting event, or presenting a project or accomplishment; my goal is to create an environment where the students feel safe to explore, take risks, and most importantly, learn to their highest potential.  The attage "Treat others as you wish to be treated" may seem old or outdated, but these simple words can really have a positive effect on the educational experience of a child.
