1999. I received chain-letter electronically from a close friend of mine, saying that she needed help on establishing a library for children in a village of Cisaat, about 2 hours from Jakarta where we lived. I joined her right away and apparently, the chain-letter managed to gather some new friends to discuss things offline. We went on site and had a talk with the land-lady. The new online chain-letter was passed on and we received books and money in big sums. Offline, we went back and forth to location, taking care of the permit and other things. When the building was finished, we decided to gather some of us offline again. This time was to paint the library. Being at the foot of the hill, painting was not that hard. For the kids.. yellow.. orange.. and blue.. were great colours to attract! And uh.. it was a fabulous lesson for getting connected electronically..! |
