The Memphis/Shelby County Stonewall Democrats is a LGBT non-profit  political organization affiliated with the National Stonewall Democrats and committed to working through the Democratic Party to advance the rights of all people regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.

PURPOSE:

It is our purpose to make the Democratic Party and its elected officials responsive to the needs of all people; particularly, though not exclusively, the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender communities.  We seek to eliminate discrimination based upon gender and/or sexual orientation; promote human and civil rights, and further economic and social justice for all people.

We will strive to realize these goals:

• To educate the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community, and others about the significant differences between the two major parties.
• To lead the Democratic Party to improve its record on issues of importance to this community.
• To work for the nomination of Democratic candidates at all levels who will be supportive of the struggle against prejudice and discrimination, bigotry and intolerance.
• To encourage our community to support and vote for Democratic candidates who are committed to defeating homophobia and prejudice.
• To work with other gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender groups and individuals to promote these goals.
