| The key word this year will be RESPONSIBILITY. In second grade, it is very important for your child to be responsible for his/her schoolwork, behavior, and ultimately his/her academic success. I will need your help in this endeavor. | |||||||||||||
| Establish a container or place where your child puts all the items that must be taken to school. This eliminates morning chaos. | |||||||||||||
| Provide your child with experiences. Trips to the grocery store, zoo, park, skating rink, etc. provide experiences that build vocabulary. A larger vocabulary will strengthen your chil'ds reading and enrich his/her writing. | |||||||||||||
| Celebrate your child's success, no matter how small it may seem. This will keep your child enthusiastic about learning and proud of their work. | |||||||||||||
| Set aside time each day to go over the work your child brings home from school. Let your child tell you about what was taught that day. Read and enjoy books with your child. Children benefit from being read to even if they can read on their own. Reading to your child will expand vocabulary and foster a love for reading. |
