Mpegcreating - Learn how to make good quality mpegs Required Software Winzip Clad DVD - clonead_uk@hotmail.com Power DVD or equivelent Mpeg Mediator Version 1 / 1.2 - http://www.mpegmediator.com/ or http://www.geocities.com/mpegcreating/ DivX 4 Codec - http://www.divx.com (may already be supplied in TSUNAMI_PACK_3F codec) TSUNAMI_PACK_3F codec - http://www.geocities.com/mpegcreating/ Tmpgenc - http://www.tmpgenc.net/ Virtual Dub - http://www.virtualdub.org * All the mpegs are produced with Tmpgenc, using different templates, therefore all your movies have to be avi format to convert them. Any avi format should be ok, this includes Divx / Mpeg 4, but for the best qualtity use UNCOMPRESSED AVI ! The Templates are to be found at the bottom of this email. * To learn how to convert DVD's to avi see section DVD to AVI. 1. Mpeg 1 Software : Tmpgenc.exe, mpgcMP1.MCF (Template) If creating from DVD, then see DVD to AVI to create the AVI. 2. Mpeg 2 - SVCD Software : Tmpgenc.exe, mpgcSVCD.MCF (Template) If creating from DVD, then see DVD to AVI to create the AVI. The aspect ratio in Tmpgenc Must be set to 4:3, otherwise DVD players will NOT play the movies correctly. With this format you could probably fit an entrie Movie on TWO 80 minute CD-R discs. 3. Mpeg 2 - 720 * 416 Software : Tmpgenc.exe, mpgc720-416.MCF (Template) If creating from DVD, then see DVD to AVI to create the AVI, for this it is best to create the avi with the aspect ratio set to 16:9 and set the aspect ratio to 16:9 in Tmpgenc. With this format you could probably fit an entrie Movie on TWO 80 minute CD-R discs. This format Will NOT play on most DVD players, but produces Very good qualtity movies which could be played on a computer. 4. Mpeg 2 - DVD Software : Tmpgenc.exe, mpgcDVD.MCF (Template) If creating from DVD, then see DVD to AVI to create the AVI. With this format you could probably fit an entrie Movie on Two to Three 80 minute CD-R discs. 5. Mpeg4 / DivX With this format you could probably fit an entrie Movie on Two 80 minute CD-R discs. The Quality produced is equal to DVD qualtity - if the source is DVD. Software : Clad DVD, power DVD or equivalent, Mpeg Mediator 1 Install the Tsunami mpeg4 codecs using either divX-9x.bat or divx-nt.bat, as appropriate. If you are prompted to over write existing files, press YES, if installing on win2K or XP you may get a error - ignore it! Then register the codecs by running register.exe. You should now have MS Mpeg-4 3920 V1, MS Mpeg-4 3920 V2 and MS Mpeg-4 3920 V3 etc. installed on your computer. Next you will need to play the actual movie/DVD you are about to backup, using power DVD, for about 10 seconds, this is needed to get Clad DVD to work, otherwise when you come to use Clad DVD you will get the following message .... "DVD Rom still has locked sectors". Run Clad DVD - we are now going to extract the mpeg2 files from the DVD disc, onto your hard drive, make sure you have enough space, you will need approx 6 Giga Bytes Free. Select the destination drive - where clad dvd will put the files, select the source drive, usually the CD drive which has you DVD in it. In the options section, it's always best to make the mpeg2 multi region, and to skip angles and remove macrovision. Save the options. Select "Select DVD movie", this seems to be the only option that works?? The press "Start selected operation", this will then create files on your hard drive. Once Clad DVD has finished start Mpeg Mediator. File - open the file you want to convert. Here you can add multiple files, which will then become one Large avi file. Plugins - Set output file - i.e. save file as ..... *.avi Plugins - Configure - This is the important bit, FORMAT you should select is .MS Mpeg-4 3920 V3 - Now this is important too, the MS Mpeg-4 3920 V3 supplied is actually different from the Microsoft version of MS Mpeg-4 3920 V3. The supplied version is FAR FAR SUPERIOR to the codec supplied by microsoft. AUDIO CODEC - select Mpeg Layer3, good quality and keeps the file size small. AVAILABLE FORMATS FOR AUDIO CODEC - up to you, I use 160Kbit/s, the higher the bit rate the better the quality but the bigger the file - in the microsoft version of this codec you are limited to a very low bitrate. TICK - high quality compression and you may as well tick the CompensateFraunhofer-IIS's MP3 codec bugs, Filters - ASPECT RATIO Meg Mediator will normal know what this should be, so leave it be. DEINTERLACE * Deinterlacing will give a smaller file size, and I would recommend switching it on. Then go to Action and start the conversion. *It is best to create One big avi and then use Virtualdub to split it into appropriate sizes to fit on a CD. If you do small sections at a time and the try to "stitch" them together, you will probably end up with the sound becoming more and more out of sink the further into the Movie. 6. DivX 4 Fast With this format you could probably fit an entrie Movie on ONE 80 minute CD-R disc. The Quality produced is nearly equal to DVD qualtity - if the source is DVD, BUT you need a very high performance computer and good graphics card to play is back perfectly, otherwise you will see some shimmering - but you've really got to look hard to see it. Output- Set output file - i.e. save file as ..... *.avi Output - Configure Plugins - Video Codec - Uncompressed (RGB) - may have to Tick OFF High Quality Compression, press OK and then come back in, so to see Uncompressed (RGB) AUDIO CODEC - Uncompressed (PCM) Filters - ASPECT RATIO Set the aspect ration to 1:1, this will give the purest AVI file, which is best for converting to Mpeg2 / 1 DEINTERLACE * Deinterlacing will give a smaller file size, and I would recommend switching it on. Then go to Action and start the conversion. * If you do not have a lot of hard disk space then you could try creating the Mpeg4/DivX avi and set the aspect ratio to 1:1 * Virtualdub - not obvious at first on how to use it, but once you get used to it you'll love it - direct stream audio and video help split movies without re-encoding. * Mpeg 4 / DivX does have the tendency to produce files with FROZEN frames, which mean that when you play an Mpeg 4/ DivX movie the picture will stop but the sound carries on. You can make the pictures continue by dragging the time bar on your player forward past the point where there was a problem.
