| Replacing
Volvo 850 Headlamp Wires |
Activity Date: Saturday March 5, 2005 |
WHY
In a normal 1994 Volvo 850 GLt, over time the insulation
on the wires connecting the headlamps may become brittle
and crack.
This may cause:
1. the wires to touch and possibly blow your bulb
2. Insufficient grounding which will make the lights
very dim.
Either way they need to be replaced.
|
HOW
Today I
learnt the hard way how to replace the wires inside the
headlamp. This is to save someone else time and effort
by outlining the quick easy way.
People think because its a Volvo it is going to be
complex and that was my mindset.
Hard Way:
1. remove headlamp wiper,
2. remove body cover below headlamp,
3. remove indicator light,
4. remove headlamp lens and
5. pull out the silver insides
6. disconnect wires.
7. squeeze the clip containing the power wires and
remove it from the back.
Easy Way:
1. remove bulb housing covers at the back of the
headlamp.
2. disconnect the wires from the headlamp housing and
remove the bulbs.
3. reach into the back of the headlamp and SQUEEZE the
top and bottom of the clip containing the power wires.
It should pop out at the back of the headlamp. If
I had only known the socket containing the wires could
have been removed by squeezing it from inside the
headlamp.
I spent the entire day doing it the hard way. Now I know
the easy one :).
