All Saints & All Souls Day

Thursday, Holy Day of Obligation

This coming Thursday is the feast of All Saints  and as such it is a Holy Day of Obligation.  All are obliged to assist at Mass unless you are legitimately impeded.  Masses in our church will take place on Wednesday evening at 5:30pm, followed by a Mass on Thursday morning at 8 am, and a final Mass at 12:10pm in the afternoon.  Try to make one or another of the three Masses.

Friday is the Commemoration of the Faithful departed and there will be two Masses scheduled in our Church at 8 am and once again at 12:10pm.

Try your best to attend Mass on both days.  Friday also happens to be the First Friday of the month. And since Saturday is likewise the first Saturday of the month, devotions will be held on Saturday afternoon, after the Mass..

Monthly Calendar

The monthly Calendar for the Parish is published with this issue of the bulletin.  Try to save it for the entire month and refer to it for information for activities in your parish Church.

New Offering Envelopes for 2008

The new sets of envelopes are now ready and available for you and they will be placed in the Sacristy and on the desk at the rear of the Church today.  We ask you to take your set of envelopes that has been assigned to you and try to use them faithfully through the New Year.  The easiest way to contribute to the support of your Parish is by the use of the envelope System.  It tells the Parish that you are a faithful attendee at the Services offered and that you are contributing on a regular basis to the support of your church.

We need more and more of our people to use the envelope system here if you are indeed worshiping here.  It also puts the pastor in a position to be able to vouch for you active participation in your parish life.  If you have not used the envelope system until now, resolve to begin and start using them as of this new year.

New Website

The Parish has an additional Website, it is www. MostPreciousBloodChurch.net.  This particular website has pictures of the church as well.  The old website: www.geocities.com/mpbchurch will probably be used only one more week, and then give way to a new site: www.mpbchurchnyc.org will be the new website after this week..  It likewise will carry pictures that might be available of various activities in the Church, such as the San Gennaro Feast and Procession as well as other festival occasions held in the church.  The new Website should be up and running by this coming week, hopefully.  If it is not, we will let you know next week for sure.  But the basics have been taken care of and it is just a matter of doing some polishing up and refining the last few things.  Hopefully, it will turn out to be a very nice website.

Thanks For The Flowers

We want to thank Mike Serrone who every year goes out of his way to purchase pots of flowers in memory of his deceased parents and donates them to our church.  All of those beautiful plants on the various altars came from him.  We thank him for always trying to his best to beautify our church some way or another.

Parish Sick & Deceased

Please remember during this coming month of November which is dedicated by the Church in a special way to the Souls in Purgatory, to say a special prayer daily for them, and for the sick in your families as well.

Euro-English

The European Commission has just announced an agreement whereby English will be the official language of the European Union rather than German, which was the other possibility.  As part of the negotiations, the British Government conceded that English had some room for improvement and has accepted a five-year phase-in plan that would become known as “ Euro-English.”

In the first year, “s” will replace the soft “c”.  Sertainly, this will make the sivil servants jump with joy.

The hard “c” will be dropped in favour of “k”.  This should klear up konfusion, and keyboards kan have one less letter.

There will be growing publik enthusiasm is the sekond year when the troublesome “ph”: will be replaced with “f”.  This will make words like fotograf about 20% shorter.

In the third year, publik akseptanse of the new spelling kan be expekted to reach the stage where more komplikated changes are possible.

Governments wil enkourage the removal of double leters which have always ben a deterent to akurate speling.

Also, al wil agre that the horibl mes of the silent “e” in the languag is disgrasful and it should go away.

By the fourth yer peopl wil be reseptiv to steps such as replasing the “th” with “z” and “W” with “V”

During ze fifz yer, ze unesesary “o” kan be dropd from vords kontaining “ou” and after ziz fifz yer, ve vil hav a reil sensibl riten styl.

Zer vil be no mor trubl or difikultis and evrivun vil find it ezi tu undrstand ech oza.  Ze drem of a united urop vil finali kum tru.

Und efter ze fifz yer, ve vil al be speking German lik zey forst plas ...

If zis mad yu smil, ples apresiat yur inglish tong and try to spek in ze gud inglish from now on!

Just Common Sense

Three men were hiking through a forest when they came upon a large raging violent river.  Needing to get to the other side, he first man prayed:

“Please, God, give me the strength to cross the river.”

Poof! .....God gave him big arms and strong legs, and he was able to swin across in about two hours, having almost drowned twice.

After witnessing that, the second man prayed:

“God, please give me the strength and the tools to cross that river.”

Poof! .....God gave him big arms, and strong legs, and also a row boat.  And he was able to row across in about an hour and a half after almost capsizing once.

Seeing what happened to the first two men, the third man prayed:

“Dear God, please give me the strength, the tools and the intelligence to cross that river.

Poof! ....  He was turned into a woman.  She checked the map, hiked down the river bank about a hundred yards and walked across the bridge.

What we are is God’s Gift to us; what we become is OUR GiFT to God.

Some people who give the Lord credit are reluctant  to give the Him Cash.
