TEXAS STATE GUARD INFORMATION

GENERAL

The Texas State Guard is composed of a headquarters located in Austin and military police brigades located throughout the state that consist of  individual battalions. The size and structure of the Texas State Guard is determined and directed by the state Governor through the Adjutant General.  Texas State Guard soldiers are volunteers and train a minimum of eight hours each month.  All serve without pay unless called to active duty by the Govenor of Texas.
 
ENLISTMENT REQUIREMENTS

Any man or woman meeting the folowing basic requirements:

Be at least 17 but not more than 60 years of age.
Citizen of the United States and a resident of Texas.
Be in good health and physical condition.
Prior active duty military, National Guard or Reserve, retired or no prior military service are all wecome to apply. 

EQUIPMENT

New soldiers are provided basic field uniforms when availible  from their unit of assignment.  Individual equipment items such as web belts, canteens, and ponchos are also issued when availible. Uniform accessories or dress uniforms must be purchased by the member.
