DanDan's World

In mid-October, My house was sold, and I moved to Mesa to live with some friends.   Although I have a corner full of my music, computers and electronics, for the first time in months, my world again extends beyond the boundries of the room I call home.   Until I can get some pictures of my new place and roomates, I'm filling this area instead with links to websites with pictures of parties and gatherings I've been to recently. Since the majority of my friends are computer geeks and musicians, there's no real shortage of these...

Last weekend was extensively cool.   Seemed to be everywhere but home.   Highlight of the weekend was being on Audra's guest list to see them with Gitane DeMone at Modified last saturday night.   I taped the show on one of my best decks, but it just came out awful... Bad microphone placement, I think.

The show was just awesome, and I hope to have some mp3s of it to share soon.

Friday certainly had the makings of a bad day, but all in all turned out to be pretty cool.   I had a terrifing anxiety attack at my new job, and left.   It just wasn't my thing... I recovered by walking to the Tempe Zia, which is always sort of a chill-out zone for me.   My friend John said they were hiring, so I made a lovely "creative" resume on the back of a Bloodhound Gang poster with a black Sharpie.   I heard they were impressed by it, but I'm still waiting to hear back.   Not having the cash to enjoy Zia to the fullest, I took to Mill Ave. on my rollerblades.   It was amusing for a while, but the sign outside Ziggy's saying they had karaoke that night was just too inviting.   I've had a thing for singing now for about 5 years and tried a song I'd never done before: Bel Biv DeVoe's 'Do Me'.   I tore it up...Ow!   Hung out until last call, and met some very cool people, including a gal who asked me to sing Stevie Wonder's 'Superstition' (one of my karaoke staples).   Unfortunately, I left the bar alone, as I usually do.   Mill was still hopping, and it was fun blading around amongst all the activity.   When it mellowed out, I moved eastward to see what was left of the IRC geek party.   Damn glad I went too.   Time I got there, it was approaching 3am, so I'm sure I missed most of the excitment, but what I did arrive in time for was just chillin' with a few of my best friends.   Being able to do that at 3am really is priceless...

Weekend before was New Years.   New melinnium, or so I've been told, although it lacked last years hype.   That's a good thing in my book.   For weeks I'd been planning on going to the Undernet IRC #arizona channel party at ript's, but the #az channel New Year's party at Codegrrrl's had been sounding more and more tempting as the day approached.   When I woke up on the afternoon of New Year's eve, DkAmthyst offered to take me to Tucson, and I was there!   The party was ok, and I'm sure pictures of it will pop up soon on someone's website for me to link to, but for the most part I felt a bit out of place.   The music wasn't really the right vibe for me, although the system playing all mp3s over a network was impressive.   When midnight arrived and I painfully realised I had no one to kiss finishing off an entire year of no one to kiss, I retreated into a corner with a computer and a phone in it, and called my friend David.   He quickly showed up to rescue me.   I spent most of the following two days in Tucson and had an absolute blast hanging out with several friends there and wasting time at the Safe House.   It more that any place I've ever been to reminds me of Muddy's in Denver, which was the best social hang I've ever had in my life.   I hope to return again soon...

Christmas wasn't as depressing as I'd anticipated.   I ended up spending it with my roomates and having a great meal.

Weekend before Christmas was Arrakiz's birthday party at Bandersnatch.   Somewhere there is a webpage with the pictures of the nipples of all the men of #arizona that attended.   Kind of makes you thankfull I don't know where it is, huh?

I promised pictures, didn't I?   Well, over the last month, I was at several Denny's gatherings, and I'm sure some had pictures taken at them.   They'll be up when and if I find them.

The most exciting event for me in December for me was a roadtrip with Bauxboi to California to The Last Dance's Christmas party.   Imagine a couple hundred LA goths cycling through an Orange County house inhabited by half of one of the area's best bands.   The Christmas tree was covered in decorative cobwebs and had smoke seeping out of it, and the supply of beer and other goodies seemed to be endless.   A high point for me was when my own fame preceded me.   Jeff introduced me to a gal who was also from Mesa, Arizona, and she replied "You're Dan Dan with all the damn records, huh?"   Heh... Turns out she got the thrill of helping move my record collection from Stypica's old apartment to his new one.   She put some pictures of the party on her website.

Only picture of me is this lovely shot of my back as I was talking to Rick.   I completely forgot her name was Shawn, which makes me feel really bad considering that she remembered very few names and mine was one of them.   I didn't get anyone's E-mail addresses, which is kind of a bummer, but do intend to go back for thier July 4th party.   The next day Bauxboi and I wandered around LA and walked around Hollywood before heading home.   Unfortunately his car didn't feel like going any farther than Blythe.   Blythe is a small piece of Hell that lies on the border of Arizona and California.   After nearly a full day in Blythe, I was sooo glad to get the hell out of there.

On Dec 9th, Faye had a cool IRC geek party at her house.   Katastrop became designated bartender (my drinks, anyway) and I got my favorite role of manning the stereo.   Dan Lee took some awesome pictures of it.

Another party I attended that has pictures on the web was Hpyfantm's Birthday.   That night Bauxboi took me out and I got extremely drunk.   I do remember Six Point Restraint playing at The Bash on Ash that night, although I spent most of thier performance sitting on the floor wishing it would quit spinning so fast.

Another cool night spent out with Bauxboi was to see The Last Dance at The Mason Jar for the last show on 'The Perfect Encore' tour.   We joined them after the show at the 5 & Diner for coffee, which is when they invited us to thier place for the Christmas party.   Thier webpage is asking for pictures of this show.   I took some, and should really get them developed one of these years.

Well, that's all I've got for now.   Thanks for taking a little time out of your world to wander through mine.   Come back soon, and with any luck, there will be more to see.
