Bottom Line: Laugh out loud funny, without being too trashy
National Lampoon's Animal House
Rating: 8 out of 10
Running Time: 109 minutes
College film run amuck! We open with two losers, a "wimp" and a "blimp", who are trying hopelessly to find a fraternity to join. Without the money or social stature to join the famous Omega House, they settle on the trashy Delta house, nicknamed "Animal House" because of the wildness of it's members. Delta's rivalry with Omega, and the teaching staff, and rules in general, is now ledgendary. Every college tradition is relentlessly mocked. From 'Pinto' the innocent Freshman who is corrupted by the Animal House, to 'Flounder' the chubby but kind student who seems to have nothing but bad luck, the entire Delta house is loveable and you'll soon find yourself cheering for the pranksters.  The entire Delta House is soon in danger of expulsion because of extreamely low grades, wild parties, and relentless pranks. When they realize there's no way to keep Animal House from being destroyed, they settle for one final, huge prank to top all pranks. John Belushi shines as Bluto, the pledgemaster of Delta House, and a student living on the edge. Tom Hulce is also loveable as clueless but sweet 'Pinto' and Verna Bloom is strangely funny as the wild Mrs. Wormer. Filmed in the 70's but set in the 60's. It holds a spot on the AFI list of the top 100 comedy films of all time.
Immature, sophomoric, and sometimes rather gross, but surprisingly funny! Not to be missed for fans of true comedy films! Though it's obviously a humor film, there are a few subtle themes and messages of true love, broken trust, loss of innocence (In a stunningly filmed shot involving a professor offering Pinto drugs), loyalty, and most of all, friendship. TOGA! TOGA! TOGA! ^_^
< Bluto, Pledgemaster of Delta
< Pinto, in a shot from the Toga party
(From left to right)    Tim Matheson (Hoover), Stephen Furst (Flounder), and Tom Hulce (Pinto) in the Dean's office
BONUS!: In the film, Larry 'Pinto'  is confused as to why Bluto named him Pinto, Bluto responds simply 'Why not?' However, there may be a deeper meaning. Pinto, in Brazil, is slang for "Tiny male genitals" and since Pinto is the only member of the cast who we know is a virgin, one must wonder ;)
Best Actor: John Belushi!
Best scene: The Homecomming parade from hell, or watching Pinto get high.
