GOD'S DIRECT LINE

Rush rush rush, this was the feeling I had when trying to catch the last rain of the season. Planting trees saves a lot of money and mortality of seedlings if you can catch at least 2 months of rain before the start of the dry season. There I was in a hurry transferring my stock to the tree farm early in the morning, trying to make at least two trips today. It was four in the afternoon when I headed south for my second trip. I was a little drowsy and tired so I thought I would get some snacks and drinks to keep me awake. True enough half way there I started to get sleepy and decided to take a break. Little did I know that the effect of the caffein in my system would make me sleepier.

Well off I went again on my way to the farm. A few minutes later I found myself on the side of the road; my pick-up truck had crashed into two large ipil-ipil trees. The truck was totalled and I knew that I was in trouble, my chest was bruised, my teeth had cut through my skin between my lips and chin, my left hand was broken, and my legs were also numb and swollen. I looked at the time and it was about 5:45 in the afternoon, and here I was on a farm road without a phone and no vehicles in sight.

I remembered a verse from Scripture that I loved to quote, it was God's direct line, no busy signal, no low bat, no missed calls, etc. Jer 33:3 - "Call to Me and I will answer you, and I will tell you great and mighty things, which you do not know.'

I looked up to the heavens and said, "Lord, you have to get me home." I saw a passenger jeep coming up the road only to see it slow down and drive by. I prayed again, "Lord, I really have to get back to the city." After a few minutes a red landcruiser stopped in front of me, it was a friend of mine going to the barrio where my farm was. On the opposite side of the street another landcruiser stopped and it was going back to the city. I asked my friend to have someone from the farm watch my vehicle, and boarded the landcruiser on the way back to the city. I thanked God for sending not one but two friends to help me.

Off we went back to the city, my friend commented that I looked pretty bad and my color was changing. Well, he was right, my chest was tight and I could not breathe and I was seeing darkness. Again I prayed, "Lord, thy will be done." I heard myself singing a song softly, "Lord, I offer my life to you everything I've been through, use it for your glory." I noticed that the pain disappeared as I sang the song louder, my poor friend thought I was delirious and drove faster. I was able to recover and told him to slow down for I knew that we would make it to the hospital. A few blocks away from the hospital I felt the urge to call on God again, "Lord, please send me my son, I want to tell him I am all right." As we turned into the hospital a van blocked our way on the opposite side of the road, as I looked up I saw my son driving the van.

He followed us in the hospital where his companion asked me if I knew of a surgeon that he could call. I told him I did not and he offered to call his uncle. As he picked up the phone to dial, someone tapped him on the back and asked him what he was doing in the hospital. It was his uncle the surgeon.

I don't know how to describe God's love for us and how alive He is in our lives, if only we allow Him to reveal himself to us. I recovered miraculously from that near fatal accident knowing that I could not survive without God.
