History of Hollywood Chapter
Hollywood Chapter No. 150 was instituted by the Worthy Grand Patron Brother Charles E. Gutteridge, on March 25, 1924 as Dania Chapter. The charter was granted nine days later at Grand Chapter and given the number 150. There were only 12 names on the charter. The first meeting was held on April 8 without the presence of this charter. In 1924 the Grand Chapter of Florida had no constituting ceremony and the charters were usually presented to the Worthy Matron at Grand Chapter sessions.

Claudia Christian, Grand Matron, as was their title then, invited the chapter to participate in a joint installation with Miami Beach Chapter No. 143 and Naranja Chapter No. 146, to be held on April 10 in the Scottish Rite Temple in Miami. Since our members were unable to attend, the Grand Matron presented the charter and installed the officers of Dania Chapter No. 150 on Tuesday, April 22, 1924.

The minutes of May 13 had to be one of the shortest on record, 5 lines, written by a Brother new to the order and not inclined to elaborate. Many food sales were held and jewels and emblems were puchased in October. The first regular installation was held jointly with Eureka Lodge No. 209 on December 22, 1924. Only one Star Point chair was filled. December 30 a special meeting was held to initiate Letha Sherron, who filled the station of Ruth at the January 7 official visit of the Grand Matron.

During the spring of 1925 with a balance in the treasury of $89.45, the chapter voted to contribute $200.00 towards building a temple. In less than two months they had $202.00 in the treasury. To keep up the interest of the members meetings were held all summer.

In 1926 the city of Hollywood annexed a considerable amount of land including our meeting place. A resolution was read to change the name to Hollywood Chapter No. 150. Many things were done jointly with Fort Lauderdale Chapter No. 59 including the official visit. Fort Lauderdale Chapter opened and closed and we performed the initiation ceremony. Our half of the expenses were $29.00.

The hurricane of 1926 destroyed the meeting place, causing the meetings to   resume in the Tyler building in downtown Hollywood. Everything had been  lost during the storm. With the help of Lake Worth Chapter the Chapter was refurbished and meetings continued again.

Letha Sherron was Worthy Matron in 1927 and was appointed Grand Instructor  at Grand Chapter that year. The following year she was our first  Grand Representative.

In 1928 work was started on a new Masonic Temple located at 19 Avenue and McKinley Street in Hollywood. The chapter participated in a parade and furnished a roster for the cornerstone. October 13, 1942 the first meeting of Hollywood Chapter was held in the new Masonic Temple. Hollywood Chapter continued to meet in this building until 1995 when it was sold and Hollywood Chapter again moved to Dania.

Sister Leta MacMinn became our first Grand Officer in 1941. She also started the Rainbow and was the first Mother Advisor of Hollywood Assembly No. 12. She  went on to become a Supreme Officer in Rainbow and remained interested in  Rainbow until her death at age 100.

In 1949 Brother Harry MacMinn was elected Grand Sentinel, after serving as Grand Treasurer, and went on to become Worth Grand Patron in 1952. He was a dedicated Mason and Eastern Star and he and his family did a great deal for Hollywood Chapter.

Hollywood Chapter celebrated it's 85 anniversary in 2009 and continues to be a respected organization in the community.
