I went running with glee to see the new movie "Serenity" on friday night, drug my friend Jana along semi-unwillingly. As you might know this movies is a continuation of the brief but excellent series on FOX a few years back called "Firefly", written by Joss Whedon, creator of "Buffy: The Vampire Slayer" and "Angel". Firefly and Serenity are both Sci-Fi/ Westerns; spaceships, horses, lasers, Colt .45's.....sweet action. Well, the movie narrows in on the story of the Tams - Simon and River who are wanter fugitives from the big bads in the universe - "The Alliance". River is a tremendously gifted girl who was experimented on my the government for unknown purposes - but they messed her brain up something fierce. So, you get to learn alot more about what was done to her and why the evil government is so determined to get her back - kewlness. You get to see alot more of the super-creepifying "Reevers"
(cannibals from the edge of space) - awesome! But then, right as the situation is really comming to a climax - its the showdown, the last stand, balls to the wall moment -

and they go and kill off my goramd favorite character!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes, one of the crew dosen't make it - hell, he dosen't even get to fight!!!! Wash is killed after making an incredible landing by a Reever's attack. That one thing seriously puts a damper on my enjoyment of the rest of the movie! Sure, River kicks hundreds of Reever's asses to save everyone else - thats neat. The assasin who was hunting them makes peace and promises to leave them alone - great. Simon and Kaylee finally get it on - sweet. BUT WASH IS DEAD!!!! I'm very sad.
