On
May 7, 2001 Williams pleaded guilty to five counts of misdemeanor animal
abuse, in connection with shootings of Missouri's Wild Horses, that occurred
on or about November 16, 2000 in the Ozark National Scenic Riverways
near Eminence, Missouri. Since that time, a National investigation by federal,
state and local officials had begun.
The incidents occurred on or about November 16, 2000 in the Ozark National Scenic Riverways near Eminence, Missouri. On December 5, trail riders found three mares shot to death about 400 yards north of where three othere were found. A ballistics test on the bullets taken from the carcasses showed that there were 2 guns involved in the killings. This was not an "accidental" shooting. This was an intentional and deliberate act of violence to the wild horses of Missouri, that are a part of our history and beauty to this state. These horses were protected under federal law. Reports show that Williams, a lifelong resident of Ellington, MO had stayed at a cabin just east of Colley Lake and was a suspect within one month of the start of the investigation. Williams was charged in a dog shooting case in Shannon County from 6 years ago. |
