| Hollywood Homicide (2003) Rating: 3/10 Review date: September 17, 2003 When some rappers are murdered, two cops are assigned to find and bring the killers to justice. The problem is that each of them has a secondary job aside from being homicide detectives. Joe Gavilan (Harrison Ford) is a real estate broker agent while K.C. Calden (Josh Hartnett) is a yoga instructor who also aspires to be an actor. Hilarity is supposed to ensue The last time I checked, this movie is supposed to be an action comedy. It turns out that I was wrong, dead wrong. There is virtually none of those in this movie. The issue of the two cops having two professions was constantly being emphasized throughout so I assume that the audience is supposed to laugh at that. The problem is that the jokes are not funny at all; instead I cant remember anything from the movie which makes me laugh at the slightest bit. Speaking of which, I also cant remember the other patrons laughing at all. The plot is just (honestly speaking) lame and boring as hell. Rappers are murdered Two cops assigned to the case But it seems as if they are more concerned with their second jobs rather than the murder case Yawn I really cant believe anyone did actually green-lighted this storyline, hoping that it will earn them some money with the help of Harrison Ford and Josh Hartnett. There is a great lack of chemistry between the two leads and I guess they are just not suited to act in this kind of comedy. Or maybe its just the bad dialogue. Actually I dont really care, whatever. The other characters are also flat and not wroth mentioning at all. Dwight Yoakams performance as Leroy Wasley is unexpectedly quite disappointing unlike in Panic Room. The lead baddie, Antoine Sartain (played by Isaiah Washington), doesnt show up much throughout the show, well not that I care anyway. The flicks pace is quite slow although the it gets more interesting during the last few minutes due to final chase scene between the good and bad guys. The music (also a disappointment) consisted mainly of rap music fails to give any impressions or help the movie in any way. Hollywood Homicide doesnt promise much from the beginning. The trailer doesnt look too good and it didnt arouse my interest to watch it. The only saving grace from this movie is Harrison Ford and Josh Hartnett whose interaction with each other is just adequate to satisfy the audience. This movie is plagued by very common problems such as bad script, stupid dialogue and lame music which dont belong anywhere in the movie. Couple of boos to director Ron Shelton for not being able to do anything about it or even to harness the potential of the two lead actors. Memorable quote: Im a detective for Christs sake. -Harrison Ford as Joe Gavilan- (c) Martin Taidy 2003 |
