| Freddy vs. Jason (2003) Rating: 7/10 Review date: September 18, 2003 The inhabitants of Springwood have forgotten about Freddy by inventing a drug called Hypnosil which prevents children from dreaming. The now powerless Freddy invaded Jasons dream and use him to wreak havoc at Elm Street so the former will be remembered again. Freddy soon got jealous of Jasons high body count and decided to take matters into his own hands Before we get started, I need to say that Im not a huge horror fan and there are definitely more people out there who knows more about Freddy and Jason than me. I do remember watching some Nightmare and Friday movies few years back although I cant remember which ones. Suffice it to say that prior to watching this movie, I tried to educate myself on this topic by finding out more about our two famous killers. This movie has plenty of elements to satisfy true fans of Freddy and Jason as well as those who are not too familiar. Enough explanation is given with reference to earlier Freddy and Jasons adventures which successfully managed to bring those unfamiliar with the series up to date. On the other hand, there are quite a few things that should excite fans of both series as well. I arrive at this conclusion by talking to some people who had watched all if not most of both series and this is what they told me. They love it! There is plenty of violence and gore in this movie, just like what you would normally expect. Some of the killings are cool and very stylish with the right amount of boo moments here and there. I am very satisfied with the amount of gore; it really lives up to what you will expect of Freddy and Jason. But the best thing about this movie is the duel between the two horror legends near the end of the movie; it was a really all-out battle with lots of slashing, slicing and dicing involving Freddys claw and Jasons trusted machete. As for acting wise, it is quite decent with the casts made up of teens that are basically there to be butchered. There is enough nudity to satisfy (for those who enjoys it) although the lead girl, Monica Keena as Lori Campbell, didnt reveal anything. Bummer. The music is quite great with some great scores fitting certain scenes to heighten the audiences senses but nothing memorable though. As for who wins, you have to watch the movie yourself because thats the whole point of watching it in the first place right? Freddy vs. Jason is actually an average horror movie with nothing much to offer if not because of the presence of the two horror legends. In spite of this, I thoroughly enjoy this flick and definitely wouldnt mind to see more. I feel like watching all the Nightmare and Friday movies to see what I have missed. Judging from the ending of Freddy vs. Jason (brilliantly thought up by director Ronny Yu), a sequel will definitely be worked on sooner or later. Memorable quote: Two killers!
