Dr Smith is the bad guy in these 2 movies (there was also a TV series.  Below you will find information about that movie/s and my critique - keep in mind this is my opinion only.  Also I have just included the main characters in my cast - who remembers the others anyway!

Synopsis

I used to watch this series on TV as a child, and loved it to death.  Of course watching it now is totally cheesy, although brings back great childhood memories!  As soon as you see Dr Smith you just know he's evil, which as it turned out was quite the case.  The plot is about the Robinson  family who volunteer to be sent off to our nearest star to colonize it.  Unfortunately the evil Dr Smith stowaways onboard with a plot to sabotage the craft - in short he's going to set a timer to blow it up and escape himself, leaving the Robinsons's to all bite the dust with the ship.  However he is hindered somewhat and after a lengthy fight, the robot Dr Smith put the bomb in doesn't blow up but instead wrecks the control systems throwing them off course and "Lost in space".  Such an original name, but back in it's time, it rocked.

Synopsis

The long-awaited for rehash of this movie was brilliant.  It helped that Matt Le Blanc was in it I'm sure, although William Hurt is by far the best actor in the movie.  Still undecided how I feel about Gary Oldman playing the part of Dr Smith - definately prefer him as Vlad Dracula!!!  The movie goes like this:  In the near future, earth's fossil resources are about to be depleted. In an attempt to save the human race, scientists have begun building a gate, through which faster than light travel will be possible - but only if there is a gate at the destination to receive the travelers. The Robinson family has been chosen to travel to Alpha Prime - the only other inhabitable planet known - however, even at normal speed it will take ten years so they are to be cryogenically frozen. But Dr. Smith,  sabotages their spaceship, and in a twist  is betrayed himself. So, he has to work together with the Robinson's in order for them all to survive. When their spacecraft is falling into the sun, the only chance to survive is to activate the hyper-drive - without a gate at the other end. Soon, the Robinson's are "lost in space", where they are accosted by hostile silicon-based space spiders to name one of their conundrums.  They have to reach Alpha Prime in order to build the second gate, or earth's only hope is gone.  Excellent remake and long overdue!
