Candyman was the bad guy in one of the few movies that actually gave me the chills - Part I, II & III ! Below you will find information about that movie and my critique - keep in mind this is my opinion only. Also I have just included the main characters in my cast - who remembers the others anyway!
-=-Candyman (1992, 1995,
1999)-=-
Synopsis Helen Lyle is writing a paper on urban legends when she hears about the Candyman, who was once an ex-slave-turned-artist named Daniel Robitaille. He had an affair with his client's daughter, got caught, and the punishment was to have his hand cut off (yes without an anesthetic) with a rather rusty looking saw and then smothered in honey, whereupon a group of killer bees came out of nowhere and killed the poor sod. Poor Robitaille didn't get to go to heaven when he died, as when somebody says the words "Candyman" 5 times into a mirror, he appears with the added bonus of a big hook strapped onto his bloody stump. Whilst writing her paper luckily for her there are unsolved murders who the locals blame on the Candyman. Lucky for the film Helen doesn't believe it so watches while all her friends get murdered one by one. Can she stop him and get the police to believe she really does now believe in Candyman? The amount of stupid people who keep saying his name into the mirror 5 times throughout the movie was mind boggling. I have not yet to this day been able to say it, even though I know he's not going to appear behind me and eviscerate me with his hook - OR IS HE? Rated: 8/10 for the movie, but 10/10 for scare value.
Cast for Candyman 2 (1995)
Synopsis New Orleans is the latest killing grounds for the Candyman. This time he has a victim lined-up. A innocent little school-teacher whose father was murdered by the Candyman, and whom her brother was accused and imprisoned for. This movie villain just gets better. Note to self: DO NOT say "Candyman Candyman Candyman Candyman Candyman" into the mirror tonight. Actually I don't think I could if I tried. Such a wuss. Rated: 7/10 for the movie, but 10/10 for scare value.
Cast for Candyman 3 (1999)
Synopsis He's back. This time in Los Angeles. Same story except this time he's lonely and wants one of his female relatives to be his companion. I'm guessing he wants to do a Bonnie & Clyde across USA. Although the theme is getting old, I'm still not able to say his name 5 times into a mirror and actually went to the extreme of clamping my hand over a friend who had the audacity to stand beside me and proceed to evoke Candyman. Rated: 7/10 for the movie, but 10/10 for scare value.
