It's about hockey.......

This is the story of a young man who has wanted nothing more in life than to play hockey and be a professional eventually. He grew up on a farm in a family where his brother already had a career-ending injury in hockey and never made pro. His family is reluctant to let him try it too, but Dean Youngblood is a determined man. He gets into a sort of "minor league" in hockey only after nearly getting his butt kicked on the ice but an ultra-violent gargantuan. He gets "initiated" and once that is accomplished they take Dean out for a drink. Dean then falls for the Coach's daughter and he gets benched. Right after he gets back on the ice, the top scorer on the team goes down. Now he has his chance, will he make it to the big time?

As you can see by the beginning paragraph, not a lot is really happening in this movie. As a teen, I loved this movie. As I look at it now, at first I wondered why I loved it so much. I came to two conclusions: Patrick Swayze and Rob Lowe's nude scene. Looking at this film now, the story lacks. A small town boy makes it big in hockey....I find that a bit boring. Dean's brother Kelly knew what the hockey scene was going to be like and I would have liked to have seen him prepare Dean so he didn't look like such a sissy when he went in. The Coach's daughter was not that pretty and these "jock" types are usually typecast as going after some big-breasted blonde. It was refreshing to see a change but one has to think that Dean chose Jessie due to a lack of options. I also had a problem with the friendship between Dean and Derick. They really did not seem to be the greatest of friends until Derek is hurt. I can understand that they were on the same team and the guy hurt Derek on purpose but why would Dean want to give up everything after his teammate goes down? There were just two many unanswered questions in this film. Frankly, I would not recommend it unless you are a die-hard hockey fan.
