Party time! Excellent!
Wayne Campbell and Garth Algar live in Aurora, Illinois and have a hilariously funny public access show called Wayne's World. One night a sneaky executive named Benjamin sees the show late night and learns about its appeal to the younger audiences. He thinks he can sell it and make himself some money. Wayne dreams of doing his own show and making money doing it but he does not believe it will ever happen. Throughout the movie he sees things and people that he swears he will be his even though he does not know how that will occur. They go out to party after the show and pick up their partied out friend Phil before going to Stan Makita's doughnuts. While there, they see Wayne's ex-girlfriend Stacy who cannot seem to accept that he dumped her and she thinks they are still going out. They refer to Stacy as the psycho hose beast. They escape from the doughnuts without Stacy and make it to a local club called the Gasworks. They see an awesome band called Crucial Taunt and Wayne falls in love with the lead singer and bass player, Cassandra. After insulting her on their first meeting, he then tries to learn her language to impress her. Meanwhile, Benjamin and his assistant sell the idea to a local arcade owner of sponsering the show with his millions. He agrees and Benjamin seduces the boys into thinking they will have complete creative control of the show and get paid if they will sign the contract. They do and it is the beginning of the end. Will they find out the truth about Benjamin before it is too late?
First off, let me say that I watch anything with Mike Myers in it and have always enjoyed his films. I watched him even before he was in movies when he used to be a regular on SNL. I guess that makes me a little biased. But this is yet another funny outing on a trip of Mike Myers films. Myers is always doing something outlandish and surprising the audience with his wit. I liked the Wayne's World sketches on SNL and I loved this movie! Partly because I got what I like to call a 2-for-1 special by the movie including Dana Carvey and Mike Myers!
I liked this movie because of the colorful outfits as well as characters. They were so outlandish in some cases and that is what made it funny. For instance, Officer Coharski instantly knew what kind of joke they were making about police officers when they made it. Was I just slow or were we supposed to infer that Wayne makes that joke at him all of the time? Also Stacy was another outlandish character. How could she not understand what breaking up was? And what was up with her outfits? Boy, did she always stand out in a crowd! Garth is also a lot more awkward in public in this film. We didn't get to see that much of him in the skits that pertained to that aspect. I was so embarrassed for him when he met the Vanderhoffs and he made the underwear analogy..."It's like a new pair of underwear. At first it is constricting but after a while it becomes a part of you.". I just shiver with embarrassment for him when I watch that part!
I can't really say that there is anything that I would change because you get to really pick your own ending. If you have seen the ending, you know what I am talking about. Maybe we could have seen Cassandra and Wayne married and rich? If you are a Mike Myers fan and have not seen this yet, I recommend it! Only if you love goofy comedies like Austin Powers though.
