Bobby Boucher is and always has been a little slow. He started being a waterboy for Red's football team when he was little and stayed there for 18 years. The players pick on Bobby unmercifully and he gets blamed when something happens. Red finally fires him. Bobby's mama is happy about it but he decides he still wants to be waterboy for another team. He applies for work with Coach Klein and the Louisiana Mud Dogs football team and gets hired. The first day he is there, that football team picks on him and Coach Klein tells him that he needs to fight back. So the second time they tease him, he tackles the quarterback who was teasing him and knocks him out cold. Instead of being mad like Red, Klein is thrilled! He asks Bobby to join the team as a linebacker and Bobby says his mother will object. So Klein insists on coming to dinner with Bobby, but to no avail. Mrs. Boucher does not want her boy playing "foozeball" as she calls it and she goes to bed. Klien tells Bobby that what his mother don't know won't hurt her. So Bobby joins the team. On his way to superstardom, Bobby learns many thing: about love with Vicki Vallencourt, about Biology and that mama is not always right from his Biology teacher, about friendship with the other guys on team, and about how he can use his anger in a good way.

This is my second favorite movie in my top three favorite Adam Sandler films. The first one is Little Nicky. Waterboy reminds me of Canteen Boy on Saturday Night Live and was probably based on that character. This was a little bit of a different role for Fairuza Balk though as well as Henry Winkler. Balk had previously been seen as the all-bad girl in The Craft and Winkler's wimpy Klein is no comparison to Henry Fonzarelli on "Happy Days". However, they did portray the characters well and I really could not imagine anyone else in the role. I think my favorite parts of the movie were when Bobby would imagine other players as people that have hurt him in his life and when Klein imagines Red as someone he is not afraid of. But the whole movie is really really excellent! Comedy with romance and a little drama. One of the best Sandler movies ever!
