Do good friends always stab you in the back?

"Valentine" is a story of murder and revenge. A little boy is scarred for life at a junior high dance. Jeremy Melton asks 5 different girls to dance with him: Shelley, Lily, Paige, Kate, and Dorothy. Almost all of them are rude to him. Kate is very nice to him but turns him down. Then Dorothy dances with him and even makes out with him afterwards. Unfortunately a group of boys see them and Dorothy acts like they attacked her and the boys attack Jeremy and humiliate him. Thirteen years later, all of the girls are friends and have been somewhat separated over the years. Shelley is a med student who is taking her finals the next day to be a doctor. After a date goes bad, she goes to the school to practice for the final. While there,she hears a noise and goes to check it out. Another student shows up and when she turns around, she sees a valentine card stuck to the wall with an obscene and horrible message inside of it. She goes back into the room and is attacked and killed. All of the girls are reunited for her funeral. During the course of the film, we are presented with a number of suspects in Shelley's murder and as the murders continue: Max, Lily's scary artist boyfriend, Kate's scary rhyming neighbor, Adam, Kate's alcoholic boyfriend, Jason Marquette, Shelley's date at the beginning of the film who speaks of himself in the third person, Campbell, a friend of Dorothy's who seems to have no last name, Detective Vaughn, the scary cop that makes a pass at Paige, Brian, a guy Paige met at express dating, Jeremy Melton, the guy that the girls ousted at the dance in junior high, even a woman who seems to have been cheated by Campbell. The possibilities are endless! But the survivors of the group must pull together and find out who is committing such atrocities and who is sending them these strange valentines cards? Is it one of the above suspects or is it one of their own group?

One thing I really liked about this movie is that it kept me guessing and I love movies that do that! One minute, you were thinking it was one suspect and then another and then another. The possibilities were endless. I wasn't sure by the end who the actual killer was and I guessed. It made me think I was wrong but then I found out I was right. That makes a good film! When you are on the edge of your seat the whole time and guessing, never sure of who it is. I really hated the beginning where the poor boy Jeremy was duped by his peers. I remember how horrible it was to be teased in junior high. I once had an experience in junior high where half of the kids in P.E. were teasing me and it made me so ill. So I can totally relate to Jeremy. However, I did not let this psychologically scar me like it did Jeremy. It just made me fight even harder.

I can't really choose a scene that is my favorite because this movie was so good. I thought the scene where Brian and Paige are together and he tells her "to wax it". Paige shows him a new meaning to the phrase and I totally loved that! There were a few special effects but nothing to really talk about. The movie was creepy enough even without any great special effects. All in all, this is a great film and is on my recommended list!
