Is there such a thing as a good witch?

Sarah and her family move into a new town. At once, she is introduced to school hunk and mega-jerk Chris and he tells her about the "3 witches" in the school: Nancy, Bonnie, and Rochelle. When Nancy goes to watch Chris at football practice, she meets the three girls first hand. They invite her to go shopping with them and she accepts in trying to make a few friends in this new strange town. They tell Sarah about their "god" Manon and how he has the ability to fix everything. Bonnie and Rochelle offer their friendship but Nancy is a little reluctant. However, after Sarah's date goes bad with Chris, she decides to join their group. Each have their own problems: Sarah, lost her mother, suffers depression, and has low self-esteem; Nancy is "white trash" and wishes to have more money; Rachelle wants to have more patience with people who do not like her, and Bonnie wants her scars to go away so she can be beautiful once again. They appeal to their god Manon for all of the things they want. Sarah becomes very valuable to the group once they realize that she is a natural witch and not just a practicing one. But Sarah is the pinnacle of good and Nancy, the root of evil. Eventually they will not be able to co-exist. One will have to triumph over the other and Manon will help one over the other? Which one will it be? Could this be the ultimate battle of good and evil?

"The Craft" has been one of my favorite movies ever since it came out. Not only does it have horror but it deals with some issues that teenagers go through every day: being teased, racism, financial class system, death, suicide. Laura has a racist attitude toward Rochelle. Nancy has to deal with being more lower class than her peers. Bonnie goes through being picked on and avoided because of the scars on her body. Sarah has to deal with her mother's death which has haunted her all of her life and the fact that she tried to commit suicide not too long ago. When you look at it from that respect, it has even more meaning.

There are plenty of great scenes in this film that it is hard to pick just one favorite! One of my favorite scenes is when the girls are invoking the spirit of Manon on the beach. It really showed the true essence of Nancy when she calls upon the "god's" power for herself at the end of the invocation. My deranged side enjoyed the part where Rochelle got revenge on Laura from the spell that Sarah puts on her. Later on, I almost felt sorry for her. But let's face it. Who hasn't wished they could do something to someone that hurt them in an act of revenge and never get caught for it? Most of all, I enjoyed the fact that Sarah was portrayed as a good witch and she used the powers of mother and earth for good and to fight evil in the end. If you haven't seen this yet, I highly recommend you go pick it up. There are some great special effects and lots of thrilling moments. The ending is the best!!
