"may the schwartz be with you!"
the movie begins somewhat like the star wars movie since it is a parody of that film. druidia is in sight and dark helmet is notified. he is angered when he finds out that someone else told president skroob about druidia before him and when he finds out who did, he uses a "nut crunching" ring on the spaceball who went over him. Meanwhile on druidia, princess vespa is reluctantly about to be married to prince valium, the last prince in the galaxy. she bucks at the last minute and she and her droid of honor, dot matrix escape in her car. the droid scolds her but she did not love him and did not want to marry him. even further, we are introduced to lone starr and his sidekick barf who owe money to smuggler pizza the hutt. lone starr and barf are called upon by king roland, vespa's father, to rescue the princess. they accept for the amount of money that they owe pizza the hutt. they rescue her just in time before the spaceballs get her but she has to have her matched luggage which lone starr swears they will be getting rid of as soon as they stop. once vespa and lone starr meet, sparks fly. when they outrun the spaceballs, they are forced to make a crash landing when they run out of gas. vespa insists on bringing her luggage and they find out that she brought things she does not need and they make her get rid of them. that night, vespa and lone starr get close. but she can't fall in love with him. she must marry a prince and lone starr is a lowly smuggler....or is he?
spaceballs is one of my all time favorite movies. i went on a date and saw this in the theater in town. it was the best up close. my date and i sat in the second row and craned our heads up to watch. we didn't understand some of the jokes made at the time but i totally get them now! one of the funniest parts in the movie is when skroob allows his spaceballs to beam him down to the control room. he gets beamed down and his head on is on backwards. he asks "why didn't someone tell me my a** was so big?" and scratches it. that was classic! another favorite part is when dark helmet asks one of the spaceballs what his name is and colonel sandurz says, "he's an a**hole, sir." and then asks another one who is listed as "major a**hole". Lord helmet says, "i'm surrounded by a**holes!" i laughed myself silly at that! it might not seem like much but there is more to spaceballs than you think. best of all are the colorful characters. i loved pizza the hutt instead of jabba. That was gross yet interesting! Princess vespa is also exactly what you would expect in a spoiled little princess with her whiny little voice and always wanting her own way because of her status.
overall, there was nothing i would change in this movie. when i got my dvd player, this was the first one i bought. it's a classic in my eyes!
I rate this movie: 9
