"big blunder of a trilogy"

the movie starts out by killing cotton weary from the other sequel. sidney is a recluse and takes calls on a women's hotline anonymously. gail weathers is giving speeches on journalism. she meets mark kindcaid of the lapd and learns the cotton weary has died and a photo of a teenage maureen prescott was left near the body. he had just filmed a cameo in the upcoming stab 3 movie and they are trying to close down the movie as they are investigating the movie and the director, roman. gail discovers that dewey is on the set helping the girl that is portraying gail understand the "real" gail weathers. gail tries to explain about the murder but dewey has her thrown off the set. sid contemplates whether or not to ever come out of hiding. when the killer finds her, she decides to come out of hiding and help the police find the killer. but who will it be? people are dying in the order of the script, but who could it be? is it one of the characters that has been in the movies all along or was there someone else hiding in the background?

{If you do not want to know how this movie ends, please do not read any further into my critique}

First of all, they should not have killed cotton immediately in the movie because he was such an intricate part of the whole plan. at least kill him towards the end. the movie at first kept you guessing a little bit but soon i had the killer figured out but i did not have the motive figured out. if i had figured out the motive, i would have walked out of the theater because it was so very lame. they used a cliche to end a great trilogy. roman was the illegitimate brother of sidney and maureen gave him away and kept sidney. so he killed everyone in revenge? that makes no sense at all. there were so many good endings that they could have produced for the end of the scream trilogy. they should have done something that everyone would have been talking about for a long time. instead, they took the easy way out. a better ending would have been that it was randy meeks the whole time. after all, he was a film student and could have faked his own death very easily. he was obsessed with sidney and it would have made so much sense to do it that way. even having cotton as the killer would have made sense. cotton was a press hungry hound and eager to see his face everywhere. he could have done the murders and covered it up. after all, he was obsessed with sidney's mother. once she was gone, he could have been obsessed with sidney. even someone like martha meeks as the killer would have been different. i was so mad ( and i still am) by the way this trilogy ended. i was okay until i figured out who was the killer and why. my biggest point is that the killer should have been someone that appeared in either both or one of the previous scream movies. this was a poor way to have this end.

overall, this movie was just okay. i would have done a lot of things differently as i outlined above. i have to give this movie...
