What will you do at your 10 year class reunion?
Romy White and Michele Weinberger were part of the outcasts in high school. Romy was heavy and Michele had to wear a back brace due to scoliosis. Christy Masters and other "most popular kids in school" made their lives a living hell.Christy put magnets on Michele's back brace. By Prom, Christy had learned that Romy had a crush on Billy and used that to her advantage to make her feel low as dirt. Now ten years later, they are getting ready for a reunion, but Romy does not feel like they are good enough to go to the reunion and impress anyone. So they make up fake careers and so forth and go to the reunion claiming to invent something that everyone would know about but they thought would never know invented it. Unfortunately, there is one person who is there that knows who invented the product they claimed they invented. Once their facade is exposed, they are laughed at again just like in high school. There was one lesson that they had to learn: don't pretend, just be yourself! Once they realize that, they go to work to make that night the best reunion ever, no matter what!
This was a great comedy that I watched so much I had to replace the tape! Mira Sorvino and especially Lisa Kudrow do an excellent job playing a couple of dumb blondes who turn out not to be so dumb after all. Christy Masters is the one girl at your school that you always love to hate. She's sickingly sweet and a backstabber to boot. Every school has one as did mine. In some cases, some may have two or more. I loved seeing Romy and Michele get the best of her before it is over with. Christy gets what she deserves! I think my favorite scene in this film considers the major fight that Romy and Michele has while on the way to the reunion. They are arguing over who should be the inventor of their product and why and then they say some horrible things to each other that they can't take back. They agree to separate after they reach the reunion and Michele has a dream while on her way to the reunion. She dreams her and Romy are still fighting once they get to the reunion and everyone is impressed with them when they tell them what they have invented. Romy gets together with her crush, Billy Christenson. Michele gets together with high school nerd turned millionaire Sandy Frink who now has a new face due to plastic surgery. Romy and Michele turn out to be the "most changed for the best" and receive an award. Romy then leaves with Billy and Michele leaves with Sandy. 70 years later, they are still fighting. Michele finally decides to end it and calls Romy. Romy's son answers and says his mother is on her deathbed. They still fight even as Romy is dying. A scary dream it must have been for Michele but it was hilarious to watch! The only part I did not like in this film was when Romy and Michele were teased and humiliated at the reunion. It was horrible and I felt so sorry for them because I know how they feel. All in all, there is nothing I would change. It is a great comedy and one I will continue to watch over and over the years.
I rate this film: 10
