"It's all about country"

It's all about the country in this great Dolly Parton comedy. Dolly plays Jake, a cowgirl who somehow made it to New York and now sings for a sleazy club owner named Freddie Ugo. Jake had had enough and she wants out of her contract. He is dying to sleep with Jake and he is driving her crazy. She then bets Freddie that she can turn anyone in a better country singer than the ones he has been bringing in. He says the bet is on and it can be anyone he chooses. He chooses Stallone, Nick Martenelli, who is a New York cab driver with absolutely no singing talent. Now Jake must train Nick to be a country singer or she risks extending her contract 5 more years and having to sleep with Freddie. There's only one way to put some country in a city boy: take him to the country!

This move is definitely funny and one that is in my permanent collection. However, it is a movie that you are only comfortable watching every once in a while. I guess that is because it drags along so much and you get bored with it after a while.Dolly is great as Jake (but what is she not great in?) and I know Nick is supposed to be annoying, but he is extremely too annoying and he gets on my nerves after a while. One of my favorite scenes in this movie, however, is when Nick stays out with Barnett Kale and then tells Jake. Her temper tantrum is outrageous and hysterical!

Unless you are a big Parton or Stallone fan, this is one you might want to skip if you want to keep your nerves intact.
