A very strange.....

"Phantoms" struck me as a very strange and somewhat uninteresting film. Jennifer, a doctor, has decided to bring her younger sister to the small town of Snowfield because their mother is a bad influence. Her sister Lisa is reluctant and grows even more reluctant as they arrive in town. A normally busy little town, Snowfield is empty. There is not one soul out on the streets. Jennifer and Lisa start to go to different shops and they find everyone dead. Some look like they have a strange disease and one couple has been cut up into pieces. Jennifer can't decide if a maniac is loose in the town or if their is a disease epidemic spreading quickly. The two sisters run into Sheriff Bryce Hammond, his deputy Stu, and his deputy Steve. They came down to check things out when communication had been cut off from the police in the town. As they search the hotel, they find only one of the seven bodies that should have been in the hotel. They also find a strange message written in lipstick in the mirror in the bathroom of one of those rooms, "Timothy Flyte, the Ancient Enemy". They have it checked out and they find out that Flyte has done research on something he claims have wiped out human and animal species before. He also claims this parasite may try to extinct the human species. He is the only one that knows how it can be stopped. But it is his passion. Will he try and stop it?

I found myself somewhat bored during the course of this film. Ben Affleck is one of my favorite actors and I enjoyed watching him in this film, but the scenes were just not what they should be. "The Ancient Enemy" was not that scary and it did not seem entirely as intense as you might expect. At one point, the Enemy looked like a giant moth which was not at all scary. Ever seen Mothra? Rose McGowan, who usually plays the "bad girl" or at least the "girl with an attitude" was whiny and a wimp in this film which I also hated. Liev Schreiber was entirely goofy in life and in death in this film. He was not funny. When you read the back of the box, this film seems to be great, but believe me, this is nothing I would recommend. Do yourself a favor and watch a repeat of Nightmare on Elm Street or Friday the 13th. Either one would be better than this.
