This fifth installment of the Nightmare on Elm Street series begins with the characters left in the last series: Alice and Dan. Alice and Dan are about to graduate high school and they are still together. Alice has a nightmare of Freddy trapping her in the shower, then she becomes Amanda Krueger as she is locked in the room with the 100 maniacs and being raped then Freddy being in bed with her,She freaks but then gets ready for her graduation anyway. All of her friends graduated with her: Mark, Yvonne, Greta, and of course, Dan. Mark is an artist that creates comic book characters; Greta is a young woman consumed by her mother's wishes for her to become a model, Yvonne is a swimmer; and Alice still works at the café. Alice is delighted when she finds her father did come to the graduation and has stopped drinking. Dan goes to a party with Alice's other friends after the graduation but Alice cannot go because she has to work. She has a nightmare about having Freddy as if she were Amanda while she was awake and she calls Dan. As soon as he hears what happened, he jumps in his truck to rush to her side and Freddy gets him before he gets there when he falls asleep behind the wheel. Alice passes out as she sees the wreckage with Dan inside and when she wakes up she finds out she is pregnant. The newborn dreams and that is how he is getting to Alice while she is awake and causing her to lead him to her other friends. Can she stop Freddy this time when he is in the nightmares of her newborn?

I have read a lot of bad reviews on just about every Freddy movie since the first one. People seem to think they got worse as more were made but I think just the opposite! This fifth installment was one of the best ones. I think my favorite part was when Freddy had a showdown with Mark and Mark was pulled into a drawing of Freddy's house. Alice draws herself in and gets inside with them but does not reach Mark in time. Mark becomes his favorite comic character that he created and Freddy becomes "Super Freddy". I love that part!! The part that I hated the most was when Dan died. Alice and Dan were so right for each other. I thought it was wrong to have Dan die, especially with Alice pregnant and everything. They could have very well built off of Alice's son for the next installments though and they did not and that also disappointed me. However, the next installment did not disappoint me at all. To me, each Freddy movie got better and better. This one was great! My advice to you if you have never seen them: start at the beginning and watch all 7! They're awesome

I rate this film: 9
