Everyone has another face.....

Aaron Boone starts to have strange dreams. He has dreams night after night about people being murdered and about a strange land called Midian so he goes to a psychiatrist. His doctor convinces him that he has been the killer and he is responsible for the killings. He gives Boone some pills and wants him to take them then turn himself in. Boone starts hallucinating and gets hit by a car. When he wakes up, he is in the hospital. The doctor tells him that he was taking a lab halluciniginic and not lithium as he thought. He hears a patient next door screaming about Midian, the land of the dead and the place where the monsters roam. Boone convinces the patient that he is from Midian and he must show him where the land is if he wants to join them. He tells Boone and then he rips the sides of his face off before he dies. Doctor Decker, Boone's doctor, tells the police about the nighmares and how Boone killed all of those people. The police start chasing him. He runs inside Midian and meets with a monster that says he can smell the innocence on him. Boone tells him he's killed people and the monster tells Boone he was lied to. Boone runs away from the beast after it bites him and gets outside, only to get shot by the police after his doctor says that he has a gun. Boone then wakes up in the morgue and flies out to Midian. He becomes a Night Breed, a shapeshifter. The only thing is now that he has finally found Midian, he is not sure that he wants to be there because he wants to be with Lori and they tell him that he must give up all aspects of his natural life. That is the law. But that is one law that Boone is willing to break? If anyone finds out about Midian, it could mean the end to Boone and all of his kind. Is he willing to risk that for love? Will the Night Breed be able to survive if they are found out?

Clive Barker can honestly be the next master of horror after Stephen King. He has all of the elements that make a great horror story in this movie. He has great monsters that are freakish and interesting. He combines a vampire myth about being burned by the sunlight with a different kind of "life after death" theory. They too worship a god named Baphomet who supposedly founded Midian. You also have to "earn" your way into Midian. It seems like a mini "hell on earth" but Boone never did anything bad to get there so it leaves what they have to do to get there to your imagination. There is some gore in the film but just enough to make it interesting, nothing to the extreme. This is also a love story mixed in with horror. Boone and Lori love each other so much that death will not hurt them or seperate them. What a great mixture! This is one of the best Clive Barker films that I have ever seen and I cannot think of anything that can make it better.

I rate this film: 9
