Never steal a Leprechaun's gold!
That is the ultimate surmise of this film. It begins with Daniel O'Grady, a modest and ultimately poor man. His wife is shocked when he pulls up in their yard with a limo and a driver bringing him home. He then tips the driver big. She thinks he is crazy until he opens the package that arrived that day and shows her the bag of gold coins inside of it. He tells her a crazy story of how he fairly got the gold from a Leprechaun in Ireland. She thinks he is crazy but thinks differently when the Leprechaun kills her after she does not know where his gold was. Daniel manages to get the Leprechaun into a box and to put the one thing on top to trap him inside of it: a four leaf clover. The downside is that Daniel lost his wife and he had a stroke the same day and had to be put into a nursing home. The Leprechaun stays trapped inside of the box for ten years, until J.D. Redding buys the house.
J.D. brings his spoiled Los Angeles daughter, Tory with him to the house which needs lots of work. She starts to leave and go to a hotel in town and runs into one of three town painters, Nathan. Tory likes what she sees in Nathan and decides to stay after Nathan teases her about being scared of the house. She then meets the other two painters, Nathan's brother Alex and Ozzie, who is a bit slow. Ozzie goes downstairs to check out a noise after he hears a child singing and asking to be let out of the crate. Ozzie accidentally knocks off the clover and allows the Leprechaun to escape the crate. However, Ozzie is known for his outlandish magical stories and no one believes him when he says that he saw a Leprechaun in the basement of Tory's house. After he goes back outside, Ozzie sees a rainbow and thinks that the Leprechaun's gold may be at the end of it. He runs towards the end and Alex follows. They do find the gold and they hide all of it, except for one coin which Ozzie swallows. Alex makes Ozzie swear not to tell anyone. However, they soon find out that Ozzie is telling the truth about the Leprechaun after he sets a bear trap that catches Nathan's leg. Now the quest is on to stop the Leprechaun after he is after them all because of his pot of gold. How can they find out how to stop him? Will they all survive? Will he notice that one coin is missing? Watch to find out!
This is the first of five movies in the Leprechaun series. I honestly do not think it is the best. Leprechaun is mainly some comedy mixed with horror. Even though the little demon is killing everyone, he makes jokes and rhymes as he does it. Also, there two extremely hilarious scene. In one, the Leprechaun is riding in a kiddy car and going way to fast when a cop stops him. In another, he is racing after Tory in a wheelchair. The magic of the Leprechaun seems to be what kept this movie going. He also looked really creepy and looked how I envisioned an evil Leprechaun would. Although I never ultimately thought of a Leprechaun as being evil. I always thought of them as happy little creatures (after all, I am of Irish descent). All in all, this movie is alright. It is worth watching once.
I rate this movie: 6
