"I Know"
Helen Shivers wins the Miss Croaker Queen beauty contest in town and no one could be happier than her boyfriend, Barry and her friends Ray and Julie. They go to a celebration afterwards and class weirdo Max flirts with Julie. Barry messes with him after he does and pushes him around but Barry is already drunk. Julie, Helen, Ray, and Barry are all a little drunk and they go to the beach to tell ghost stories and make out. When they start to leave, Barry is so drunk that Helen gives Ray his keys. However, Barry distracts Ray because he is acting up so bad and they hit something. At first they think it is an animal but then they find out it is a man. None of them want to jeopardize anything they already have in their lives so Barry decides they should dump the body. They start to dump the body in the water and the man grabs Helen's crown off of her head. Barry jumps in the water after it and gets it back. They then make a pact to never speak of this moment and to take it to their grave. Everyone agrees except Julie who reluctantly agrees. A year later, Julie is getting ready to go back home from college. Her grades are bad and her mom is trying to find out what is wrong with her when she gets there. She gets a letter that day that says "I Know What You Did Last Summer" and she freaks and starts to look up her old friends. Helen did not become an actress as she had once aspired and works in her father's store in fragrances. They go to Barry who is not happy to see them at all. They think it may be Max who sent the note and Barry roughs him up. But who is really sending the note? Why did all of them get a note? Is it one of them or was the man really dead they threw over the pier?
Of this movie and the sequel, this one is definitely better. It has a better cast and an original story without repeating the first. It also kept you guessing who the killer might actually be which keeps me interested in a thriller/horror more than anything else! My favorite character in this movie was Ray. For a while, you knew he was keeping a secret and you were not sure what it was. It seriously seemed like he may indeed be the killer by the end. Also, Helen was great. People envisioned her as this stuck up person because she was a beauty queen but she got brought down to earth and was quite humble by the time Julie got to see her again.
My favorite part of the movie is when Helen and Julie hear about Billy Blue from Missy Egan. They want to meet this guy and are so determined which surprises me. They are even more surprised when they hear who Billy Blue actually was!
One question though. Why was Julie and Ray the only ones to make it out? Why did Helen and Barry have to be the ones to die? I didn't like that. But I guess to have a good horror film, some of the main characters have to die to keep it interesting. This movie definitely kept me interested and it is one I can watch over and over again.
I rate this movie: 10
