I have such sights to show you

This film begins in the year 2027. It shows a sort of scientist-type person trying to open Pinhead's box without actually touching it. Some soldiers are on the ship trying to figure out what has happened on this ship and they say that the man who invented the ship has hijacked it and is now transferring all of the power into one room. His name is Dr. Paul Merchant. His ancestor, Phillip L'Merchant made a puzzle box after being commissioned by a wealthy man to do so. He knew nothing of the evil that lurked inside. He shows it to his wife and is insulted when she is not impressed. Much to her chagrin, he goes to the wealthy man to deliver the merchandise. Right before he leaves, he sees the man use the box for evil as he killed a woman with it. L'Merchant tells the town doctor what he saw and he suggests that L'Merchant design a machine that will kill the demons. He tries to steal the puzzle box but to no avail. He finds the wealthy evil man dead and a devil woman named Angelique sleeping with his servant. She mortally wounds L'Merchant after she tells him his bloodline is cursed. The doctor continues his story and tells of his bloodline's history that goes along with the box. Will the now future Merchant be able to once again summon the demon? Why is he trying?

Sound a little boring? Well, it was a little boring compared to the other Hellraisers. There is one thing Hellraiser movies have always been known for up to this point and that is violence and gore. This movie is extremely lacking in that department. Instead we get an anthropology lesson on the Merchant bloodline. I admit, the story had a purpose but it seemed to be too long and drawn out. Right away the average Hellraiser fan knew who Angelique was and what she stood for. She quite honestly got on my nerves rather than scaring me. The best thing about this is that Courtland Mead, the precious little boy that acted in the newest version of "Little Rascals" and in the newest version of "The Shining" was in this movie. Even when he was really small, he was such a good little actor. You never see that in a child very often. But that boy is going to be a really big star as he gets older. I enjoyed seeing him but I really did not have a favorite character in this movie. Overall, I was very disappointed with the story and the horror.

I rate this film: 6
