The story begins by introducing us to Whoville and the Whos who go crazy at Christmas time. Little Cindy Lou Who cannot figure out why everyone makes such a fuss over Christmas. We learn that, of course, the Grinch hates Christmas. Teenage Whos like to go up and venture to his door like it shows that they have courage. Stu and Drew Lou Who take their girlfriends up the side of Mount Crumpit outside of the door of the Grinch. After the Grinch scares them, they run back into town screaming about the Grinch. Mayor Augustus Maywho gets upset just at the mention of the word and then the town carries on. Afterwards, Cindy wants to know about the Grinch and why he is the way that he is. Her dad is reluctant to tell her anything about the Grinch. Later that same day she has an encounter with the Grinch who had snuck into Whoville and started wrecking things. He scares her and she falls into the present sorter machine and he ends up saving her. She starts to think he is not that bad after all. Then she goes to his mothers and gets the real story behind his past and why he hates Christmas so much. Cindy wants to do something special for the Grinch and ends up nominating him Holiday Cheermeister for Christmas in the town. She thinks this will help any hard feelings he might have and make him not so mean. Augustus is counting on him not coming but when he does, he is in shock. Will this really help the Grinch or will he come in and wreck the Whos' Christmas?

There is so much more to this movie, little plots within a plot, but I just can't go over everything here. This movie is one of the "Carrey"best! Jim is able to put to good use those overexaggerated facial features that he has been so famous for for years now. And honestly, who else could they have gotten to play such a crazy character. Carrey is the only name who comes to mind! The costumes and makeup were also incredible!

My favorite part of the entire movie has got to be when we get to see a little bit of the Grinch's childhood and we learn why he hates Christmas so much. That made the story altogether make sense. I also really liked when he came into town as the Cheermeister and they gave him the Christmas sweater and made him eat at the contests. But by far, one of the funniest scenes is when he cuts off the Mayor's hair. I loved it!

This is truly a great holiday movie but it is rated PG for a reason. If you've got kids, there are a couple of suggestive parts in the movie that probably would have been just as good if they had left them out. So watch carefully! Overall.....

I rate this movie: 9
