They've opened the gate....again
The story begins by telling you a little bit of what happened in the first installment of the Gate movies. Then we find Terence or "Terry" as some call him dabbling in black magic because he wants to reopen the Gate to Hell to be able to get his wishes answered. He calls on the Unholy Trinity and gets excited when 3 shadows appear in the doorway of the rundown place that he conducts his unholy practices. Then he finds out that the three people are: John, the leader of the three person gang, Moe, his sidekick, and Liz, his girlfriend. John and Moe scoff at Terry but Liz understands him because she knows about Demonology which is what Terry is practicing. They break the circle that Terry has created but they are still able to conduct the ceremony. Each one of them places a belonging into a ceremonial bowl and they burn it to get the things that they want. All of them wish for something selfish except for Terry. He makes a wish for his father to stop drinking and to get his pilot job back. The ceremony works and they can smell death. They then find that one of the demon's minions has crossed over and John shoots it and he and his girlfriend and sidekick exit. Terry finds the minion and takes it home, putting it in a jar of formaldehyde. His drinks and then leaves the house. Terry goes to school and gets sent to detention for spacing out in class. He meets back up with Liz and she tells him how cool last night was for her. She wants to come over to his house and see more. Then one night while he slept, Terry heard a noise and got up to find the minion healed and then it escapes from the jar. A minion from hell is on the loose. Can he stop it before it takes over everyone in the town?
First of all, I want to say that this movie gave me chills. It was not because it was too scary or anything though. It is because the actor that portrayed Terry resembles my cousin who is a family outcast that practices witchcraft. That is very scary. The movie itself was moderately good. It kept my attention most of the time but some parts left you trying not to go to sleep. I think the best and funniest part of the movie was when they started wishing for selfish things and everything started literally turning to pooh. It starts out as literal and then moves to figuratively speaking in terms of someone's life. For the moment, John got what he deserved. However, I did not really feel sorry for Terry or for John when they got what was coming for them. Terry asked for it and John deserved it. The only people I really felt sorry for were Liz and Moe. Liz was stupid for wanting to be with Terry in the first place. Moe was a sick boy and seemed to be hanging with John to feel like he belonged to a group. The ending would be considered happy I guess, but I actually would have liked it if they had stopped the movie about seven minutes sooner and left sooner. If you want a horror movie that you probably watch one time and never want to watch again, this is the movie for you!
I rate this film: 6
