"The beginning of a horror legend"

The movie begins in Camp Crystal Lake 1958. Someone comes in to the camp and kills all of the camp counselors, especially the ones that seem to be sleeping together. It then moves to Friday. June 15th in the present time. Camp Crystal Lake was called Camp Blood by the townspeople. Annie hitchhikes into Crystal Lake. Camp Crystal Lake is reopening and she is going to be the cook. The townspeople warn her not to go to the camp because of what had happened in the past. The town freak Ralph warns her that if she goes, she will never come back. She is a little frightened by him but she continues on her way. Meanwhile at the camp, all of the counselors that are already there are getting ready for the reopening while awaiting Annie's arrival. Jack, Ned, and Marcy arrive at the camp where they meet Steve Christy, the head man and Alice. They talk of things going on and of past things at the camp then they help him set up. Those horrors happened in the past and there was no way that could happen again. Or could it?

In a series of horror movies, the first one is usually the best. However, this one is just the start of many Friday the 13th movies that seem to follow the same pattern. It's almost like a message from parents for teenagers to scare them into being well-behaved. You drink, you die. You do drugs, you die. You have sex, you die. But after you watch a while, you understand why the killer kills the counselors in this fashion. There is really nothing to pick apart here.

The best part of this movie? The ending, definitely. The worst part, pick one.

Friday the 13th is just your classic slasher film. By the end a small story evolves, however, if you are watching this for the story, you will be disappointed. The killer is revealed by the end. But just in case you have never seen this movie, I will not ruin the ending. All I can say is that the killer is not the same killer as the rest of the movies. You also have to wonder how the killer in later movies evolved into the size he became. Something was surely not explained somewhere.

I rate this movie: 7
