The story begins with John and Karen Brennick trying to escape because Karen is pregnant with their second child. Their is a law against having a second child even though the first one died. They almost get out of the country but then are discovered and caught. John is taken to "The Fortress" which is a prison out in the desert. He got 31 years for his crime and is taken in and fitted with an intestinator. An intestinator produces pain in the stomach or can cause death if they go in the wrong places or if Poe decides that their life is of no use to him. He makes friends quickly and watches out for them. He also takes the rap for something that he was just helping a friend in and not committing a crime. It is then that Poe shows John that Karen is there after all and did not escape. Maddox then attacks John and they fight later at supper. Maddox is killed and the guys in the prison give Maddox's crony's bed to John. The only problem is that John is mindwiped for his crime and cannot function anymore. Only one thing can bring him out. Can she get to him in time?
"Fortress" is a great science fiction action thriller that keeps you watching to see what will happen next. Christopher Lambert is another one of my favorite actors and he does an excellent job portraying John Brennick in this film. The beginning of the movie where they are brought into the prison and explained to about the intestinators is one of the best and most interesting parts of the movie. The thought that a man could build such an incredible thing and use it in prisons is imaginable and kind of scary. I also liked it when D-Day took apart one of the intestinators, learned how they worked, and then was able to get them out of their stomachs. That too, was very cool. Although the absolute best part is when Karen brings John out of his stupor. That has to be the best! If you are into the futuristic science fiction type movie, this one is for you!
I rate this film: 8
