Everyone has an imaginary friend as a child....but who still has one as an adult?

Elizabeth Cronin grew up with an overbearing mother as a child. To deal with this, Elizabeth or "Lizzie" as her friends referred to her, played with her imaginary friend Drop Dead Fred. Lizzie felt like Drop Dead Fred was the only one that cared about her when she was little but he also kept her in all kinds of mischief.

Flash forward. "Lizzie" is now in her twenties and a court reporter, and married to a successful dealer of luxury cars. One might refer to her as a little mousy. The movie begins with Elizabeth trying to talk her husband out of a divorce after they had a fight the previous night because of Charles's infidelity to Elizabeth. He tells her what he thinks she said and she just goes along with it. Their relationship is over. Elizabeth is terribly unhappy and her best friend Janie tries to help her out until her overbearing mother comes back into the picture. She insists that Elizabeth knows nothing of keeping a man and that she will show her how. Shortly after, Drop Dead Fred Elizabeth's childhood playmate comes back into the picture and starts wreaking havoc on Elizabeth's life once again. But now things are different for Elizabeth. She is not that scared child she was when Drop Dead Fred once appeared.....or is she? Elizabeth must find the key to unlock the root of her fears before Drop Dead Fred can move on. But what is the key and how must she find it?

I won't give the ending away because it is just too special. This is definitely a movie for anyone who is a child at heart. Drop Dead Fred's antics with Lizzie keep the viewer interested. You just can't seem to wait to see what he is going to do next to her! Comedy runs rampant in this film and a little romance is thrown in when Elizabeth meets up with a childhood chum, Mickey Bunce. To me, the best scene of the movie is a pivotal scene in which Elizabeth and Drop Dead Fred make a huge messy mudpie on the kitchen table. You are able to laugh at this scene, but you can also see what attributed to Elizabeth's excessive emotional scarring.

If you haven't already seen this movie, I highly recommend it for a good laugh and maybe a few tears. To me, it is a classic already!
