Nerd to hunk? Because of what?

Christine obviously has to be one of my all-time favorite Stephen King movies! One obvious reason is that it goes almost completely by the book! Small-time homeboy nerd, Arnie Cunningham has one dream: to get the car of his dreams. Then one day while he and his football-playing best friend, Dennis are driving, he sees it: A red and white 1958 Plymouth Fury sitting in the driveway of a junked up yard. Dennis tries to discourage Arnie from buying the car but his heart is dead-set on it and he purchases it from the old man. The man says the car's name is Christine and he gives Arnie the key.

As the story progresses, things begin to get interesting. Arnie used to have a problem with Buddy Repperton and his gang of thugs. At the beginning they take Arnie's lunch and destroy it after Dennis steps in. After Arnie repairs Christine, it seems that he becomes "Mr. Suave and Debonair". He dates the prettiest girl in school, Leigh Cabot, and drives the hottest car. One major problem is that Christine is jealous of Leigh and tries to kill her by choking her on a piece of sandwich while Arnie is adjusting the windshield wipers at the drive-in. A stranger gives Leigh the Heimlech and saves her life.

Another problem is that Buddy Repperton has not forgotten about him. Arnie's mother had refused to let him keep Christine at his house because she said that it junked up the yard. As a result, Buddy and his gang sneak in and rip Christine apart from fender to fender. Arnie is furious and vengeful but he does not actually do anything. However, Christine has plans of her own and begins to pick off Buddy and his gang one by one. But what caused Christine to be this way? Was she possessed from the beginning or was it just a coincidence? You'll need to watch to find out.

I guess I am a little deranged but I actually enjoyed watching Buddy and his gang get creamed by the car. In the end, they say that everyone gets what they deserve and Buddy sure seemed to. It was very sad that Arnie had to just about lose everything, including his life because of his car. But I guess that's just a man and his car. All guys are like that about their vehicles in a way. My favorite scene in this movie is when Christine comes blazing like a fireball from hell out of the gas station, literally on fire and chasing after Buddy! It was the best!

Overall, Christine is frightening enough to be intriguing and it keeps your attention the whole time. The cast was great and the so were the scenes for the time period it was filmed in. I would definitely recommend this movie to anyone!
