"Hi, I'm Mr. Bean"

The Langley family are in for a shock when a so-called British art scholar comes to stay with them until he can give a speech on a famous painting. There's only one problem. Mr. Bean is not an art expert! He sits and looks at paintings all day and then sleeps the rest of the day. The council at the museum where he works wants to fire him but the chairman will not hear of it. They then decide to send Mr. Bean to America to give a speech on the Whistler's Mother painting that will be placed in the museum. David Langley, who works at the museum where Bean will give a speech on the painting, and his family pick Bean up from the airport. The Langleys minus David are less than happy about Bean staying with them. David and Bean hang out a bit and he manages to get himself arrested while he is out with David. He gets released. David guesses that Bean may not be who he says he is and warns him to stay away from the painting while he talks to others on his committee. Bean agrees but then sneezes on the painting, making it run. He tries to rub it off and it leaves a blue mark. He sees that he has no other choice and takes the painting to the janitor's closet where he uses paint thinner and removes the spot but it then melts the painting. How will Bean explain this? Some American general paid a pretty penny for this painting and now its rubbish! What will David do ? Is there anything that anyone can do?

This movie was not the first time I had seen Mr. Bean. I had seen some of his shows on cable and they were hilarious. Rowan Atkinson is a genius in that he never has to open his mouth to be funny. That is the secret to great comedy! Two of my favorite scenes from the movie come to mind now that I have mentioned that. The first is at the beginning when Bean is about to meet the committee and he accidentally splashes water on his pants. He never says anything but what he does and who sees him will put you in stitches! The other scene is when the head art person and his wife stop by and Bean and David try to cook. They have cooked nothing so they have to improvise. Bean tries to serve onions as appetizers. He gets his wrist watch stuck in the turkey while stuffing it. Then he gets the turkey stuck on his head somehow while looking for the watch. Then he and David decide to cook the turkey in the microwave. That was the stupidest one yet! Stupid but hilarious to watch!

Overall, Bean is a movie that I have watched over and over since it came out. It has a permanent place on my shelf.
