"The Ice Man Cometh!"
The villians once again take the cake in this yawn addition to the Batman movie series. The movie begins by introducing the newest villian to the viewer, Mr. Freeze. Batman and Robin fight him and fail to defeat him as he gets away with diamonds from the Gotham museum. It then switches to a woman scientist, Doctor Pamela Eisley, in a lab with her insane partner. He has done experiments with toxins and poisons and has come up with a mixture for a super soldier and he creates one out of a street mongrel. The street mongrel's new name is Bane. Her crazy partner Dr. Woodrow used her research to create his own project and Dr. Eisley is angry and threatens to expose him. Instead, he opts to kill her by dumping the poisons and toxins on her. She is then transformed into a different being, her blood becomes aloe, her skin is filled with chlorophyll and her lips are filled with poison.She kills her partner and takes Bane for her new partner in crime. Meanwhile, distrust is growing between Batman and Robin. Robin thinks Batman does not trust him and Batman thinks Robin is not responsible enough and makes him do extra training.It is also in this one we see Batgirl but nothing like the series depicted her. She is someone completely different in this version. Later Poison Ivy and Freeze join forces as do the Bat squad. But Batman and Robin get past their petty differences to accomplish a common goal or will Gotham perish into evilness?
Again, the best part of this movie was the villians. George Clooney played a poor Batman and Chris O'Donnell was boring as Robin in this movie. I did enjoy the inclusion of Batgirl but I would have liked it if they had kept her with a connection to the Commissioner as in the first one. Arnold played a good Mr. Freeze but I think the character and actress that stole the show was Uma Thurman as Poison Ivy. I loved her costume and everything about the character! The first time I saw it, I was always awaiting Poison Ivy to come back on because the things she did were outrageous and nothing like her normal self was before she was transformed. That was really about the only thing I liked in this movie. The dialogue was not as predictable as the previous Batman Forever in which the characters sounded like they were reading out of a comic book sometimes. But the events seemed very staged and the fighting did not look natural. I know in this day and time we talk about things being like the original, but please, they might as well have been putting, Ack! and Bonk! up on the screen while Batman and Robin are fighting the villians, especially when they are fighting in the museum. That was one of the worst fight scenes I have seen in a movie in a long time! I think my favorite part is when Ivy thinks she has Robin seduced and she tries to kiss him. Her throne, if you will, is awesome! And I loved the vines how they were alive. Great scene and great effects! For Uma's performance alone, I would give this movie a 9 because she was great. However, the rest of the movie was not so great. Arnold gets an 8 and the overall movie gets a 5.
