The legacy begins!
This is the first movie in a series of Batmans with Tim Burton, director. It begins by showing Batman helping a family get away from bad guys and trying to bring them to justice. It then switches to Bruce Wayne. Wayne's friend, Harvey Dent, is running for D.A. as is Jack Napier's boss, Carl Grissom. Napier and Grissom will do anything to make sure Grissom gets the position. Grissom fears being linked with Axxess Chemical by Harvey Dent. Jack suggests they break into it and torch the place and Grissom assigns Jack to the task. They frame Jack and he is confronted by police and a fight ensues. Jack falls into a vat of chemicals that severs the nerves of his face, making him smile horridly. Batman is then on a mission to stop Joker as Joker's criminals escapades begin to terrorize the city. Batman is determinedto stop them but there is one thing he never counted on: falling in love with beautiful reporter, Vicki Vale who is obsessed with him.
Minus more special effects, I honestly think this was the best Batman movie. Keaton was a strong Batman and Nicholson was the ultimate baddie. The effects with Nicholson's Joker face was outstanding and disturbing. Keaton was everything Batman is envisioned as: suave, debonair, and mysterious. I think my favorite scene was when Joker breaks into Batman's house and he and Joker have a major confrontation. When Keaton raises his voice, he sounds just like he did when he portrayed Beetlejuice! I also liked the part when Jack saw his face for the first time after the chemicals. He was so scary and freakish!
Overall, I think this was the strongest Batman movie. There was top-notch acting along with a star-studded cast ensemble. Who could ask for anything more?!
I rate this movie: 10
