"The man is truly psycho!"
Patrick Bateman has some strange habits for a Wall Street type of guy. He works out and that is fairly normal to want to keep in shape. But he also washes with many types of soaps, has facials, massages, his fingernails done, puts on masks to help his skin, and those are not the only things strange that he does. Did I mention that he has a bad temper if someone does something better than him and he likes to murder them too? He believes women should be in dresses not skirts as we find out when he fusses at his secretary. He is engaged to Evelyn Williams yet has an affair with Courtney Rawlinson, who is engaged to fellow businessman Luis Carruthers. The first time we really see Patrick lose his temper for sure is when fellow Wall Street man Bryce likes someone else's business card better than his. He goes out and kills a bum on the street and walks away like nothing happened. After this, his bloodlust grows and he feels he has to kill again. He pretends he is someone else and meets Paul Allen at a restaurant, another businessman who is more successful than him. He brings him back to his apartment and kills him too. Then he assumes Allen's identity for two hookers so he can get his groove on. Later Carruthers shows off his new gold embossed card and Patrick feels like he has shown him up and goes after him. However, it comes to light that the engagement to Courtney is a sham and Luis is gay. Not only that, now he thinks Patrick is too. He leaves without finishing what he went after him for. He then asks his secretary back to his place for dinner. Will she be next for the American Psycho?
I really enjoyed this film. Patrick Bateman was so unpredictable. Not only that, the smallest things made him mad. It was all about money with him. If someone else had a more expensive apartment, he was mad. When Luis shows off a nicer business card than his, he is mad. It was like a child inside of a grown body. Why does he have a fiance if he doesn't really care about her was another question that comes to light about his strange behavior. Why did he think that killing all of these people would improve his situation?
It really made you think. Plus the unedited version is kind of funny when the chain saw starts up! Do you think this Psycho gets caught? Watch and see! This one is highly recommended!
I rate this movie: 8
