I never thought watching a movie could be painful. This movie sucked. That's the best way to put it. I figured this movie would be silly and stupid but laughable enough to watch. HELL NO! To put it in simple terms, the audience laughed thru much of the movie, not because it was funny but because it was so sad. Imagine combining Cocktail, Melrose Place and an after school special with some really bad songs/singing. Bad, bad, bad. Did I mention that it was bad?

Good things about the movie: Adam Garcia, a new comer, is very good as Kevin, the boyfriend. Maria Bello, who plays the bar owner, Lil, isn't bad either. She seems like a good bad ass. I feel sorry for her though, the only two movies of her's that I have reviewed thus far, are the only two bombs I've given out (the other being Payback). The acting wasn't horrible all around, the script was just terrible. It couldn't be saved. I can just hear my friends now that didn't want to see, "I told you so." Yeah, yeah yeah. There is one or two pretty good parts to the movie...that's where it ends though. It's not even enough to warrant half a star.

Complaints: oh, where to begin? For those of you who are expecting a bunch of t & a, think again. Tyra Banks is in the movie for about 2 seconds. I'm surprised they had enough material from her to put her in the preview. I don't know why they call her "the law" in the preview. She doesn't do a damn thing. The one thing they really don't let you know about in the previews is the fact that Piper Perabo, the star of the movie is a wanna-be songwriter. And whoever wrote her songs that she sings in the movie is just that...a wanna-be. They reek. There isn't enough of the bar scenes and WAY too much of her singing. I think the audience could care less about that. The movie should have been more of a coming of age/ love story, rather than an aspiring artist story. The movie was also predictable. For those of you who saw it, could you not tell that the man in the jacket at the bar that gets squirted with water was someone important? Is she that dumb? I guess so. I won't even go into the ridiculous comic book b.s.

I don't know why I expected more from a first time anythinger, David McNally and a virtual new comer to writing, Gina Wendkos, backed by Jerry Bruckheimer (the king producer of action flicks). It was just sad all around. I don't think this is even a movie you can get a good laugh at while making fun of. It's just something you should avoid at all costs.
