For the few of you out there who haven't heard of this film, boy, have you been missing out! This might possibly be the most creative film I've ever seen. It might be the most creative film ever made. It was shown at the Sundance Film Festival and the hype behind the movie keeps growing and growing as its release date approaches. To me, movies are like books. Some you are immediately interested in and you are completely focused from the get go. Others you have to sit through for a while in order for it to become interesting. Well, the tag line that proceeds this movie will automatically pull you into the story. It reads as follows: In October of 1994, three student filmmakers dissapeared in the woods near Burkittesville, Maryland, while shooting a documentary. One year later, their footage was found. This movie is spliced between 16mm and VHS recordings. This incredibly eerie film is about Heather Donahue, Michael C. Williams, and Joshua Leonard. They are film students who go into the woods to shoot a documentary on a local legend, The Blair Witch. According to the official Blair Witch site located at http://www.blairwitch.com these three students are still missing. Now if you don't want anything to be given away...don't read any more. The scary thing about this film is because of the first person camera work, it pulls the audience in and you feel like the 4th member of this group. You are there when they hear the noises. You're there when things disappear and then little grave sites appear outside their tents. You hear the babies crying in the middle of nowhere. You're there for all of it and it becomes very creepy. Now if you don't want to know the whole story....stop reading now. I highly recommend that you see this film before you read this. Please, if you haven't seen the film already stop reading now. It will ruin EVERYTHING. Ok, I warned you, here I go. Alright, this is to lay to rests any worries you might have. No, this is not a true story, contrary to popular belief. All of the three main actors are still alive and well. The directors got the idea and wrote a rough outline for the story. The actors did actually shoot the film themselves. The directors kept in touch with the actors through satellite link-up. The rest of the crew had the job of running through the forest trying their best to scare the hell out of the actors. If you did any kind of research, other than official site, you would find this out. The company who released the film has made numerous public statements. But still, don't you think the film is much creepier if you didn't know this before going in? |
